When was the time when someone misunderstood your nationality?

There is this new Dutch student from Belgium in our sophomore batch. He joined school few weeks ago only and he is pretty new. We striked up a conversation in games period cuz my best friend was absent and he was sitting alone and I was sitting alone too and he seems to be extrovert so he started a conversation with me. He was actually shocked when I said him my name because all this time he thought I'm American-Korean/Japanese. But soon enough he connected the points as he discovered about my Indian English and Accent.

Never did I ever thought my nationality can be this misunderstood. I asked him why he thought I was American-Asian and he said because it's of my slightly tan skin and my eyes and lips looked Asian to him. He thought that Indians were either really brown or really fair. Makes sense since he hasn't seen many Indians yet now. Well, not going to lie, even I thought he was American when I saw him for the very first time before hearing that he belongs to Belgium. This was really amusing and shocking to me.

How about you? Was your nationality terribly misunderstood at some point?
