In the household I grew up in, in the occasional times when we had company over, my mum wouldd plan and fret a lot., and then when they would knock on the door, she would call out, "I'll be right out" and run into the bathroom, and not emerge until after the door was opened by someone else (usually me). Weird. She would do the same routine with dinner. "I'll just be a minute" as she had her drink and smoke. Guests would feel justifiably weird about starting without her. But she couldn't handle it. I'd put the food on the table, people would serve themselves. It was odd, to say the least.
I once gave $40 to Obama running for office because some canvasser knocked on my door (but I actually believed in him and wanted him to win.) Pretty much, no good comes from answering your door. Although it could be Amazon now. I let them in, lol.

For real I always gotta peek through the blinds first to see who it is. If I can't see who it is then I won't answer. Mostly only my neighbor and ups/FedEx knocks on my door but stil not worth risking opening it without checking who it is

Reminds me of this one scene in the movie unbreakable. I remember watching it when I was a kid. Was never something I thought much about. Basically a large janitor goes to the suburbs and calls at a family man's house. Says "I like your house" then proceeds to open the screen door as the father attempts to stop him. Yeah same here. Plus I don't want somebody showing up from a past job. I live kinda tucked away... so if you're knocking and I'm not expecting you then you're REALLY lost, and on foot, because I have sensors in the driveway that let me know when a car pulls in. We have three shooters in the house we answer the door in buddy teams after checking the cameras.

oh 100% i live in st. louis and in a rough area lol it all depends tho
if im expecting someone or a package then not as much. BUT if im not or it's night time, then im very much on edge. i have a chain on my door, so if i have to answer some tweaker or sketchy guy, then i'm probably fine. still makes me anxious as hell
so a tweaker or sketchy guy can't just kick open that chain, unless that chain is welded to a mental frame, I don't know how your chain on the door makes you feel safe, at that point just dont open bro 😂
