I like the serenity prayer:

I take this 'God' to be the same 'God' which Einstein was refering to when he said 'God does not play dice'.

Clearly passing credit or responsibility over to a supernatural entity completely undermines the point of the text.

The sentiment has been copied countless times over at least 2 thousand years in anycase so it is most certainly not a religious text, but this form is poetically pleasing to me though it is probably better to strike the God off the start of it but I included it here because that is how this particular version of the idea was written.

I always interpret that expression (which I also think is inane) to mean: when you are in love and your partner makes a mistake, you forgive them before they ever ask.
