Has a disease ruined things for you?

My perfect life back in college with me topping every class and acing my physical goals.. everything got ruined by a skin disease.
Life was never the same again.. currently struggling to get it back on the "perfect" track

It sucks to get derailed by something like that. Have you seen a dermatologist,
Covid ruined everything for me and I never got the disease. I was supposed to be hired as an associate professor at a local college. Covid lockdowns caused enrollments to drop and tgmhe deal fell apart. The country has gotten worse. I don't know how much is because of covid and how much is because of Biden. I am not interested in doing anything. Inflation is scary and I don't know what the future is going to be like. I was looking forward to retiring and now it looks like it may never happen and I feel bad for my kids. It seems like the future was really bright until the beginning of 2021 when the lockdowns started.

Lot of people were affected by covid directly and indirectly in many ways!
And yeah I was unfortunate to first end up with a bad dermatologist whose medicines made things worse.. later I found a good one whose treatment saved me but took time...

Hopefully you will get it under control and get control of your life. I had severe arthritis in my hip. I just suffered with it for years. Finally I could not put any weight on it. I got prednisone which helped but X rays revealed that the joint was deformed and I needed a total hip replacement. It rmtook many months but I am able to do things I have not been able to do in years.

sounds odd because a skin illness doesn't affect studying just gives ammunition for mean students to shoot at you.

Skin disease can cause chronic pain/irritation that can make you not being able to concentrate/do anything properly
And seriously ruins your sleep
