Why are some cruel or mean people healthy?

What specific aspect of a person's health are you referring to, and how do you think it might be related to their behavior or personality traits like cruelty or meanness?

I think she's referring to the general mood, vitality and sense of accomplishment that often accompany the ongoing intimidation and bullying, etc, that someone who's mean derives from their favorite activity.

@Billlewis - To that I'd argue that it's really hard to truly determine if a person is healthy or not based on behavior alone. Anyone can put on a face of happiness or contentment to hide their true feelings. Some do it better than others.

Chances are that if they're being mean, they're lashing out due to having experienced extreme suffering or unfairness in their life. They're projecting it onto others as a means of releasing the emotions they feel. Either that or their brains are predisposed to certain negative ways of thought & behavior due to genetics.

And I'd also add that the systems that help us become better or healthier people aren't innately necessary for our survival. There are a lot of other factors at play. Even a simple factor like facial or bodily attractiveness could allow society to give less harsh punishments to people who are evil. Just an example.

Oh, absolutely. We're basically just speculating here, that's about all we can do. There is no statistical data we can parse to confirm or refute this theory once and for all.

Well doctors & other scientists probably have a lot of data & statistics on people who have done cruel things & the probable causes for them. But ofc, for us normal folk, it's a given that there will be a larger amount of speculation. Fueled more by anecdotes.

I know I'm late in answering but here it goes:

Because physical and mental health AREN’T always connected. They CAN be and usually are, but for example, you can have someone suffering from HIV, diabeties and or AIDS, Cancer, etc. and still be an asshole. In fact, sometimes, because they are suffering so much, it contributes to their irritability and personality change. Some tend to feel hopeless and scared that they will not get better. Their disease becomes a part of who they are sadly.

At the same token, you can have someone suffering from the same plights but still be a genuine, good person inside because they actually have the maturity to compartmentalize the two. A lot of people can have trouble doing that at times, that’s the issue. You can have someone who’s missing an arm or a leg and be an asshole, or they be also kind. It really depends. They are not always in unison or connected.

Plus, how do you KNOW they are healthy? You cannot always tell from the outside surface if they are or are not. Many illnesses and conditions (chronic or otherwise), aren’t visible in plain sight. Many body processes happen internally inside the body and so it is obvious that others won’t be able to see that. Another thing is, some people (in fact a lot) of people, can hide their illnesses and conditions well, but it would really depend, more so on the type of illness/condition or disease that person was dealing with. If severe enough, obviously it will tend to show more through symptoms. But my overall message is that they are not always connected. There are plenty of people who are well/healthy and kind, but at the same time, also, there are plenty who are assholes/jerks who are suffering from terminal cancer or other chronic conditions that may or may not contribute to their change in personality.

Ego, will, basic instincts are related to the bottom chakras. I mean, if you're physically healthy and robust that has more weight than 'good' people who are stuck in their head.
