I do wonder if it has less to do with intelligence & more to do with what someone is used to or maybe what they will tolerate.

I notice that some people in my life say they don't like sarcasm even though they really do, they just don't like it when it's hurtful to them in any way. They don't like feeling like someone else is treating them as inferior in a passive aggressive way through sarcasm.

So you've gotta be careful with the types of sarcasms used. Also, online I notice it's harder to convey sarcasm. We can't give the same body language & vocal cues we can in person.
