For me it’s when every sentence is a joke or a snark. You can’t have a serious conversation without this person having to interject “witty” commentary.
I stop talking to people like that after a while.
wbu?

There can never be too much ironic or sardonic or laconic remarks. I sort of accept your point on sarcasm because the distinguishing feature of sarcasm is it is at the personal level (perhaps oneself or ones group).
If it is turned against someone repeatedly then I would disapprove.
If you want to see the real side of a man, talk to him alone—without phones or distractions. Let me know if that works for you. I can’t fully explain why, but it’s a psychological thing!
If he’s still being witty or not serious in that setting, don’t waste your time. He’s not a bad person—just not ready to build a meaningful relationship yet. Leave him to the younger girls who will date him, break his heart a few times, and help him grow into the man he’s meant to be.
That’s how men work—they’re like diamonds that need polishing. Every challenge and lesson bring out their true potential and shapes a boy into a man.
Ha Ha. That's exactly how a friend fell for her husband. She thought he was a jerk from the first time she met him ( always joking around, very sarcastic and even kind of obnoxious) but when their friend group went to a baseball game, they ended up kind of sitting by themselves, so, they basically hung out alone together. After that day together, she told me, "You know, Ted's actually a really nice guy! He's not the A-hole I thought he was" lol There's A LOT of truth in what you're saying.
Sarcasm is self defense. It's someone so overwhelmed they are sinking and trying to float. Be kind to them.
It has a time and place. We all can't be serious 24/7.

When you see you're crossing a line or getting too personal.
For example, the other day a guy friend who considers himself the best thing since sliced bread mentioned that a mutual friend is dating a divorcee. We're all the same age, but for some reason this guy and the other one both think they should be with 20-something yo girls to make babies and keep their family lines going. There isn't a thought of love, just a warm body. So there's a divorcee... I'm not thinking that's a significant point, especially since she's pretty and has a good personality. My guy friend (who knows me for 20 years since nearly the moment I was divorced) says, "But she's divorced and who wants that? Nobody."
He had just teased me endlessly about my love life and now this. It cut close and I had to tell him that was where he should stop for the night.
He drove me home and later the next morning texted an apology about teasing too much. I knew what he meant, but it still stung.
Depends...
If their wit and snark seems aimed at just bringing me down, then I have a fucking problem with them. I mean it's cool if they're just poking some fun in a logical manner... if fact I enjoy that. But I'm talking about when they actually want to damage me. I'm not beyond smashing a man's face in or slapping a bitch.
When you can tell the person is already in a bad mood or is having a rough day. If you're being sarcastic to a jackass there is no line though because fuck mean people.
I have a few people blocked on here for that very reason. A sarcastic answer to someone's legitimate question. I can't stand people like that.
Might be the guy is nervous and that's how he tries to cope. Have you tried talking to him or them?
Just a thought...🤷
Totally agree. sarcasm’s fun till it becomes someone’s whole personality
@ItsJill its different for everyone and also based of their mood.
i don't do sarcasm if it's flirting, not unless it's clear that it's sarcasm
Are you talking about me?
When they stop laughing.
Ok. I guess I’m not your type lol
That would do it
I hate sarcasm.
When it becomes vindictive or mean.
Never
I take things easy.
