What do you do to make sure your car gets good gas mileage?

I change the air filter regularly, and I keep the tires properly inflated, and I drive conservatively. What things do you do to maintain and increase gas mileage.

Keeping up on maintenance is a good thing & I always make sure my vehicles fluids are exchanged & all services are up to date. Tire pressure is a great thing to keep an eye on because you will lose a pound of air every month so I always make sure my tires are topped off including my spare tire. I change my air filters twice a year & check them all the time to make sure they are debris free & dusted off.

Drive conservative.

Ride the bicycle instead of car... saves fuel. I also select the car with better gas mileage at times.

I don't put highest octane fuel... would get better economy, but it runs ok on lower grade... cheaper.

If we had "real gas"... not ethanol, it be even better fuel economy.

I drive a minivan full of crying babies. As long as we get to our destination and back home safely I could care less about gas mileage.

Yes. A clean air filter and proper tire inflation will increase gas mileage AND speed.

I think checking what your mileage you get is a key thing as you can't improve if you don't monitor. Obviously you are already.

It surprised me but water injection gave me about 5 miles more per gallon. The water injection happened due to a leaky head gasket - so not the ideal way to achieve it. Maybe if I got a cheap second hand I'd be willing to try a water injection kit. NOT recommending it though :) and I didn't care about that car.

Anticipate traffic light changes; drive at moderate speeds since the resistance (drag) is equal to the SQUARE of the speed, not just an arithmetic increase; plan around obstacles (traffic snarls, construction, congested bridges, downtown areas, etc.)

"SIGALERT" , on-line app, is good at finding traffic snarls in the moderate+ sized cities.

As few short distance drives as possible - it's clogging the motor/exhaust.

Take the gear out when rolling longer stretches.

Use high quality motor oil.

Route planning is key around here. That road that's a little shorter can mean a long steep hill climb in second gear.

Essentially the same things you do. Just sticking with the car's maintenance schedule takes care of most of it.

I try to anticipate problems so I don't have to brake hard. I also rarely go above 160.
