Would you contact your insurance if a person scratched the paint off your car?

My car was parked outside my house. I rarely use it as everything is within walking distance. I was walking back from the gym and someone’s car was parked right behind mine nearly touching my rear. I’ve never seen a car park that close to another in general in my life. I checked it over, and there’s several scrapes on the rear, some came off with car wax. But there’s clear scratches and a colour matching the persons car is on the scratches.

The strangers car also has white paint marks all over its front. And their number plate has a crack so they’ve definitely hit a car (whether it’s mine or before). I feel silly and bad for telling my insurance but I’m annoyed I always try and make sure there is space so this doesn’t happen. Should I report it?

Well first of all take pictures, from both cars, scratches and numberplates. Then call the police, its always helpfull if you want to make a insurance claim. Your insurance will then contact the other guys/girls insurance for dmg repair cost.

I would not go to insurance if you want them to pay your dmg. Usually its not worth the cost increase in insurance payment, for a few scratches.

Probably not because of the deductible unless you can prove who did it

I wouldn’t tell your insurance unless you plan to use them to file a claim, AKA pay a shop to fix the damage whether that be redoing the paint or replacing the spot they hit
