Do you need to tell your auto insurance the truth about an accident?

It happened at 12ish am. The owners (a married couple) of the vehicle are out of town and will return in 2 weeks. It's unoccupied and there were no witnesses either.

I got out of a home party (my friend's b-day), was heading back home and that's when it happened. Not major but I still hit their rear bumper and it was a small scrape.

Do I have to tell my insurance the truth about it? It's obvious why. Yet I still thought I could make it home with no problems. Even with dizziness I saw myself with good coordinations so I trusted myself.

Can I just tell my insurance something else, that I accidentally hit their bumper and exclude the obvious part.

If there's no witnesses I'd keep my mouth shut. If you're friends with the couple I would go directly to them and explain it was an accident (don't mention the drink), and offer to pay the cost of repairs. Keep insurance out of it if you can.

And don't drink and drive.

I had booze that's the issue. Do I need to tell them that or I can just say I accidentally hit it.

I don’t know. I admit fault. I hit whatever you hit. My insurance is responsible would probably be what I say🤷🏻‍♂️ Determination of Fault is their thing. If you admit fault then I would think that’s all that matters🤷🏻‍♂️ Not an expert 🤷🏻‍♂️

Let me put it like this; if you lie and get caught, the consequences would be far worse than if you just paid out of pocket to take care of the repair on your own money.
