Why? There would have to be a good reason, but typically if they've made no attempt to stay in contact, or they reappear out of the blue, "just to say hi..." I probably wouldn't. It seems like they're after something, or it's insincere. Maybe I'm just cynical, but I'd want to know why they suddenly reappeared after all these years...

That's exactly what I've been trying to decide. There are people that I met there and I miss them, but I'm "afraid" of taking the first step.
If you used to hang out with them and if you feel that they might be open to talk to you, then go forward. Otherwise, it's better to move on and forget about it.

I actually did this. I found somebody I went to college with in a magazine article. I looked her up on the internet and sent her an email just to tell her that I saw the magazine article. She sent me back a picture she took of me sitting in her dorm room all those years ago.
