there could be many reasons for it...

they're into the art that involves... some do it to honor and remember someone or something they love... others make it a part of their style and fashion choices... for many other is cultural and/or religious/ethnic tradition or heritage... many also do it to belong to a certain subculture or group... many other are just impulsive, dumb or under the influence, lol

a lot of people do it because it can become a trend, or peer pressure, trying to fit in...

My thoughts on that is wild. What I've learn is. Girls do it to get in clubs. When they was young. 16 17 18. 21 only. Men that have one arm sleeve tatted have a big junk. I'm serious. Also lead singers in a band or a solo rapper same thing. If a guy has just one tat. The trend. Now women that has tatted full big ones. I don't know really I assume maybe was molested and they want the pain to show better outcome. I own no rights to what I'm saying.

Because it's their choice. Most of the time it has a sentimental memory. Such as paw prints of a pet, or maybe an item a loved one was/is attached to.

There are many reasons. I know people who have tattoos to remark their stages of life that marks their mental maturity, their aim of life. Sometimes it’s for beauty, my friend is a tattoo artist who transform permanent scars into beautiful flowers or arts. Some for artistic/erotic reasons.
