Should I go to my work Christmas party if I have a drinking problem?

I'm new to my work ( 1 week) . We have an up coming work Christmas party , with unlimited alcohol.

Should i attend it if i have a drinking problem? I dont usually cause trouble while drinking, i just like to have a few too many. Do you think it would be better to show up or not?

If you know you won’t be able to control yourself, you should not go. You said you have a drinking problem, though you like to have a few too many, and you don’t usually cause trouble?
I think there’s a lot of variables involved that are all suggesting you are unable to deal with this effectively on your own and if you do attend the party, I believe it will end badly for you.

Please, attend an AA meeting soon. I’d recommend before the party.

I dont need to go to an aa meetong, i only drink once a week. It's just when i drink, i like to have a lot.

Cool story. But it won’t hurt to attend a meeting. You can even go to one virtually.

You asked for advice, inserted the question: ‘if I have a drinking problem’, and yet don’t want to attend a meeting meant for and managed by alcoholics, people who have been through terrible experiences, but who are still there to help. Like I said, it doesn’t hurt to seek actual help, but losing control on the one time per week you drink still constitutes as a problem. You can be sober 364 days of the year, but if that 1 day is when you get so black-out drunk you end up causing harm to yourself and/or others, you have a problem.

Makes zero difference to me personally- I don’t know you- I just hope you don’t end up causing damage.

If it'd be way too tempting with the alcohol around, I'd say don't go. But if you'll be fine with some non-alcoholic drinks and can restrain yourself, then go.
