Does having a smug attitude get you very far in life?

Not in a bad way, just talking about people who are overly confident in themselves and brag about it in a smug way.

Its ok to be confident but overconfidence is a bit much. And no it won’t get you very far unless you’re famous like an a tor or sports stat. Even then smugness tends to make people not like you.

Originally I had asked the question because I have a friend that does this all the time. Don't get me wrong he's a nice guy, but a bit annoying in the smug guy attitude kind of thing. He means well I'm sure, he just gets full of himself sometimes.

While being confident is a good thing being overly confident and bragging about it can be seen as arrogant and I don't think that will take you far in life.

People who are smug may appear to be on top, but once they are put in a position where they are supposed to be able to lead using what they say they have in knowledge, that smugness goes away fast when they are drowning in something they do not have a full handle on. They tend to fail very hard.

A person who does have real knowledge will listen, and wait till everything is on the table, evaluate what is before them; then implement what works, and work hand in hand with those on the ground to make sure that everyone is involved in the success of a project. They use their knowledge to guide, help, and work with others for everyones betterment.

Not if you cannot back it up at all. Confidence even unshakeable confidence will only get you so far if you can't back up that confidence with some substance.
