Man asking my age and I didn’t buy alcohol?

I went in the liquor store and I bought chips and candy, but he asked my age? Why?

Doesn't matter what you purchased , you entered the store on your own , its a place that sells alcohol , we in Australia have signs " no entry unless 18 years of age " or with a guardian , country dependent I guess.

Drinking age in Australia is 18 not 21 like USA , and we say ask the age even if they look 25 .

He had no legal reason to ask and you had no obligation to tell him.

Who knows, maybe his follow up line was going to be "Wow, you look more like 20" as a way to flatter you and start a conversation. It might be his pick up line for women who come to the store.
