Is good customer service a rare thing in your country?

20 years ago when I moved to South Africa the customer service was incredible. However 20 years of the ANC forcing businesses to pander to demographics instead of competence and skill has brought every industry, especially customer service, to it's knees.

Now we have people on English speaking customer care lines who don't speak English. My hear sinks when I have to call my Medical Aid company - I worked for them 12 years ago but left after (among other reasons) I was denied a move to the face-to-face EXPLICITLY English speaking counter instead of being on the phones because I didn't speak an African language. In other words, because I'm white.

You know your country is fucked when rather than the ability to comprehend the language medicine or law is taught in you have to have the right level of melanin in your skin.

Competent customer service agents here are like baggage handlers at an airport: you suspect they might exist as you've seen their footprints in your luggage, but nobody travelling has ever actually seen one...

Where I live in America (Pennsylvania USA) I called to get an order from Dominoes Pizza and sorry to say the girl talking we could not understand her language, no judgement on her part, but I will order from a Pizza place that I can understand the person taking my order, she could not understand us America English language and we could not understand her language. Also, I called Walmart to see if they were open on New Year's Day, the woman working at Customer Care treating me like I was casing the place OMG now come on people.

It varies incredibly, there does not seem to be any hard and fast rule. Even the same place, on one day you get brilliant service and everyone is amazing, the next day it’s a bunch of dogs chewing on wasps and they are horrendous. On the whole it’s usually not bad though.

It depends. Some establishments have excellent customer service, while others have horrible customer service. Overall, I would say that customer service is not as good as it used to be. Many workers in service industries no longer realize that their customers are who's paying their wages.

The best customer service I ever had was in Japan. They make sure you are taken good care, and that the product you are paying for is the best for you!

Back in the U. S., we have varied customer service. Some places you go it is on point, other places you make a note never to grace that place again.

It's generally very good where I live (NZ) but less so where I'm from originally (UK). It used to be much worse in the UK when I lived there with my Kiwi ex-wife who always complained about it. On a recent visit it seemed to have improved in shops but was still not as good as NZ. At least there seemed to be fewer obviously bored and disinterested teenagers working in shops than there used to be.

But once in a while you do run into a company that will go the extra mile to make things right.

Yes, it is rare. There is a minimum standard but that doesn't make it good. This is a subjective measure though. . .

Complain you have a problem for the most part so no
