Customer service questions?

I'm really insecure lately and so much is bugging me easily, so I get I might be sound little hyper sensitive. but has this ever happened to you?

I was getting some drinks and liquor store and there was a guy infront of me, and the cashier was really chatty and friendly with him, then came me and he was straight faced, just the basic kind of transaction questions and even sounded in low mood, as I was putting my things away another lady came after me and he went back to his super upbeat and chatty with her. Was it a me thing? If you're in customer service would be nice if you have done this t someone before and why lol.

While a tad unusual, honestly every customer is a mental reset. If you did not do anything rude you can safely assume they just needed a mental break and you were the person they felt safe enough with to step out of pretend Customer Service mode with for a few seconds.

Normally in CS you just try to read the person and adapt. Some people want to talk. Some people just want a nod and to pay. I am much more upset when they misread and make me talk than when they misread and stay quiet. But that's me. For my money, you got lucky!

So we are both at an age where many people in a CS job would see us as same generation with them. Meaning you're expected to relate more.

Honestly, more and more just sounds like you got the genuine relaxed instead of faked friendly.

Those customers likely were regulars. The more often the store employee sees each customer the more likely they could become chatty. Nothing for you to worry about

It didn't seem like he knew em he was just talking about day which he could have with me too

He may have known them.

Also they may have been giving off nonverbal signs that were open to talking to him.

But also do you think it has to do with looks? Like do they care enough what I look like because the other two were both olderish people

Sure looks can influence it sometimes. I don’t know what you or they look like.

yeah it was awkward and i could tell he knew the person before me

and from the pov of working food service no not like that, but it is different. you're supposed to smile at customers or else you'll get complaints lol some places take that seriously

Yea made me feel crappy, I don't think the cashier new the others in my case. It was just weird and left me feeling like " what's wrong with me "

The other two might have been regulars he had got to know over time and he might be reserved.

I wouldn't take much out of this.
