Ha ha, depends on the situation. 99% of the time I'm running around acting like a bratty kiddo. Super immature, but it's a choice. I fuss, play dress up, whine, goof off, play on playgrounds, sing and dance around, tell dumb jokes, etc. There's no rule book saying I have to behave in any way except what makes me happy. I'm certainly not going to put on a mask and act out a stereotypical adult just because I'm supposed to for some unspoken reason. That would be a waste of my life.
When it comes to business, finance, education, some hobbies, making sure my responsibilities are handled, etc. I act way more mature than most people, like an elderly woman with a lifetime of experience. Which is probably why I married a man who is an old soul as well. We bonded over old black and white shows like The Andy Griffith Show and I Love Lucy. He's way more into old westerns though.
Been like this my whole life. Either hanging with old people or babies. I don't think I've ever been one to act my age.00 Reply

+1 yI don't know what my "age" is supposed to act like. I like to exercise, ride my bike, take care of my garden, yard and house, I'm painting the interior of it now, room by room. Fixing what I can, and getting help when I can't do the work myself.
Maybe some people my chronological age are sitting around doing nothing. I've never been like that as a young woman, and unless I become too handicapped, I'll always be as active as possible, involved with my family, friends, politics and grassroots community activism.
I'm a Greater New Orleans Master Naturalist and am on their board of directors and minority recruitment committee. We are citizen scientists who study the flora and fauna of the Lake Pontchartrain Basin. I volunteer with a city tree planting organization and with a homeless advocacy group. I donate to PBS, Planned Parenthood and Ducks Unlimited. I've given to veterans' support groups. I'm a duck hunter.

@exitseven No. I occasionally go out duck hunting. Just because you go OUT to hunt doesn't mean you come home with anything. And the hunting seasons are short. Thanksgiving to end of January for ducks. Deer overlap. Rabbits are too fast for me. Plus I've never tried. Their meat is bland. Sort of like frog. White and tasteless.
I'm also a bird watcher. Most birds I simply watch and send info to INaturalist. They keep track of numbers and movement of US birds and visiting birds migrating. There are bald eagles nesting just outside New Orleans. GIANT nests atop high light poles. Stunning birds.
A few blocks from my house are horned owls and merlins. Red tailed hawks are always hunting along the river. Lots of squirrels and rats near the river. Also certain times of the year Mississippi Kites. One was in the bald cypress in my front yard. Had never seen one before and had to look it up in my bird books. Beautiful bird.
I live at the crossroads of urban and rural. My cuz and I will be deer hunting this Saturday afternoon. I'm pretty sure we might SEE some deer. Could care less if we bag any. It's about hanging around with my cousin and having a good time. Last time we did that, we saw a bobcat.
It's the seeing.
I have a poetry contest to enter and have some work to do. So, I'll see you later. - +1 y
I was selling equipment to a fire dept. Once day I got there after shift tobtalk to one of the guys. It was supper time and one of the guys served a duck that he recently shot. They invited me to have some. It tasted like steak and the guy told me to be careful because he might have missed some of the buckshot.
- +1 y
@exitseven That would be not be buckshot. It's called buckshot for a reason. Big slug to take down a deer. You use shotgun shells to take down ducks. There are lots of small pellets. Sometimes hard to dig out if they're No. 7s. (very small). But most hunters of ducks use No. 3s. Much larger pellets and have more shooting power, but won't blow the darned duck to pieces.
Duck makes the best gumbo. Just about as good as snapping turtle soup. Excellent dark, lean meat. And when you go out and get it yourself, which means you buy ahunting license and shells and practice shooting and gear to get out in the marsh, you appreciate how difficult and rare it is to get such meat.
98 percent of hunters are conservationists and belong to conservation groups. If you're NOT a conservationist, like my dad before me, there won't be any habitat for these animals to live in and there won't be anything to hunt.
By supporting animal habitat, the wild areas, you support the animals and protect areas, such as marshes, that support hunting fishing and natural beauty.
Oh. Chew slowly and carefully. Dad brought home some duck that were a little crunchy!! I remember this as a young girl. But they were delicious. I use his gun. 1963 Remington with a dark wood stock. The 12 gauges I see not are all camouflaged and such. I dunno if you can get wood stock shotguns anymore. - +1 y
@exitseven Yes. But you paid for that, didn't you. I looked up some prices. Quite a shock. $700 dollars on up. Hoo! I'll look to see what my number is. Sorry. Wrong maker. Winchester model 1400, MK II. Made in 1964. Thought it was 1963. Think my dad said it was that year. But, close enough.

I bought a hand gun and a shotgun. I have a friend that is a retitled Sheriff's Deputy that runs a training facility for mostly law enforcement. I spent a week taking gun safety, tactical shotgun and advanced pistol. I visit a gun range every few weeks. I never wanted to own firearms. I am angry that it felt like I need them for protection. When I was younger I could probably do okay with a baseball bat. Now I don't move around like I used to.
- +1 y
@exitseven I don't want a handgun. If someone breaks in your house, that's what they're going to steal. No one wants a 12 gauge, unless it's a marauding group of thieving duck hunters! But I jest.
I don't have a bat. But at my bedside is a big crowbar. I lock my doors at night. The only thing I own that's worth stealing is my laptop and right now, its screen is partially blacked out. So, not even THAT! My cell phone is an old Iphone7. Not sure if anyone wants one that old. I never buy anything new unless the previous model breaks or fails. I drive a 2006 standard shift Civic LX. Good gas mileage and no fancy stuff to break. It has 160.000K on it.
So, don't know what they'd steal from my house. I've got 15 dollars in my wallet. My discover card is frozen because of a scam attempt on it. It's the only credit card I have in my wallet and it can't be used.
I don't move around like a gazelle either, but I know I could hide that crowbar under the covers and slip behind my bed if I heard the front door open. I'm 15 feet from my front door and usually al ight sleeper...
Thing is, I don't want to kill anyone other stuff. Take the fucking stuff and go. I've got insurance.
Some guy was robbed in the French Quarter and killed the other day. I don't want to blame the victim, but I wonder if it was a crazed druggie, or if the person tried to resist and the robber became angry, or frightened or both and shot him. It was in a badly lit part of town. The person was a tourist.
Take my shit. All of it. It's replaceable. My life isn't. I don't want to fight with someone irrational enough to break into a house where there's a person who might or might not be armed. That's crazy.
And to risk THEIR life to get stuff? Just as crazy. I hate crazy people. - +1 y
The problem is that if you do not have the means to defend yourself you make yourself a target. If there are no real consequences then the criminals will come back and do it again. I do not want to take a life but if my home is invaded I have thought long and hard and I have no doubt that i will shoot somebody., The fabric of our civilization is unravelling and there is no stopping it. The only recourse is that you have to be able to defend yourself.
A person like yourself would be an easy target if you could not get to that shotgun in time. - +1 y
@exitseven WHich is why a shotgun is not a defense. I have my crowbar at bedside. I can swing it, I have my ww2 marine knife.. all 8 inches of it. I know how to kill someone and if my life is threatened. I'll do it. Aim for the gonads, the foot arch, break the nose. I am able to do all t hose things, though I'd prefer to use a crowbar. Keep my distance. I don't keep a loaded gun in the house. HIghly unsafe. I've already shot my bed accidentally because I THOUGHT my shotgun was unloaded and it wasn't. I don't want anyone killed because of carelessness. And I was careless once.
I don't live in fear. There's no reason to. You can't make news reports, which are always sensationalized, as the way you live your life. Be mindful and thoughtful, but live in joy. Otherwise, we should all just kill ourselves because someone's coming to get us.
Only thing coming to get us is death. Not random crime. Plus, I give all the dog walkers in the neighborhood cookies. Everyone knows me and the DOGS THEY LOVE ME..
Neighbor gave me a Christmas cake because I gave her dog sausage bits. I've got everybody's number!! ha ha! I feel extremely safe.
+1 yAt 29, almost 30 this year, I'm certainly a person who's already semi-retired lol. I mean sure I'm 29, I work full time, I haven't moved into my own home, and I don't own my own transport. however, with savings, my lifestyle, my hobbies and my habits: I'd say physically and mentally and all considered, I'm basically like a semi-retired man in his 60s if not his 50s. Nearing retired, lol or may as well be. Ironically, I'm 29 and still have many decades to go of working life. Irony, lol 😂😆 how some people act their age, some people are already grumpy old people, and some are like they're aging without aging (no aches or pains) lol 😂
01 Reply- +1 y
I mean that's what I may as well act like, I guess even in my earlier 20s, I've always had the hobbies, interests and mindset as if I'm an old fart, always nearer pension age, always nearer nearer. Lol. Yet im not 69, still decades to go lol im 29 lol hahaha ah well. Some say you act how you feel, or you are the age you are or aren't lol 😆
