I wanna escape life and live a quiet peaceful life on thr coast, am I crazy?

I used to live by the ocean. I moved back to my hometown 2 years ago. I've been wanting to leave and return to the place I left. I had a toxic job and health issues, so I moved believing this would cure it all. Mostly my life got worse for 1.5 years. It's better now. I miss where I used to live. I'm tempted to give up my good paying job I just got and move to a small costal town. I know I'd have to take a huge payout. As a job. I don't know.

I totally feel you. Sometimes you just wanna ditch it all and start over somewhere more low-key, y'know? The ocean is so chill and always seems to clear my head.

But you gotta think this through carefully before making a big move. On one hand, the coast sounds like it would make you happy and help your health issues. Putting your well-being first is important.

But giving up that good job would be risky financially. How stable would work be where you wanna go? Could you support yourself alright? Moving somewhere too remote, you might end up feelin lonely or cut off too.

Maybe test the waters first before quitting everything - see if you can take some vacay days, spend a weekend by the shore. If it still feels right, start applying for jobs out there and waiting for the right opportunity.

Thanks. I've thought of all the above. Work would not be what I'm making and most likely s whe new industry. I've thought about the isolation part. Taking a vacation is a good start.

Yeah taking a longer vacation there is a good way to test things out without fully committing yet. That way you can get a feel for what daily life would really be like before quitting your job. The isolation could be an adjustment for sure, but I bet once you settle in you'd find ways to enjoy the quiet. And there's gotta be cool spots to meet other laidback folks too. It's good you're thinking it through instead of just rushing into a big change. Maybe see how you feel after a week or two by the ocean - if you're still itching to stay, then maybe it's the right call. But no need to stress about it yet. You are not crazy but being near the ocean in the summer is a lot different than the winter. If you are good with making less money and you are not trying the send kids to college or other responsibilities then you should give it a try.

live in an area with several small coastal towns and villages so I can give first hand advice.

Most jobs will be in the tourist trade or shop work if you want better then be mindful you may have to commute out of the town for work. Working from home has become very popular these days and people are flooding into nice seaside villages from the cities.

A lot of the these towns have problems with second home owners. They price locals out of the market and their houses sit empty most of the year. Make it clear to your neighbours you're a permanent resident there to work.

Check what the winter conditions are like. These places look fantastic in tourist season but when the winter gales sweep in off the sea it's a different story.
