I'm just wondering. What happened that made everybody stop getting it back then?
Even now, it's never been popularized. People either relax or stay natural.

What was it about the jheri curl that made it unsustainable?

Jheri died and took it with him.
Where did the `fro go? Back in the `70's, all blacks had `fros! At least short ones! Ever since the early `80's or so, except for Norwood Fisher with his pencil point and Angelo Moore with his Mohawk (first with real hair, then tattooed) they've all gone skinhead!!
I had a Jheri curl in middle school, and it started to look weird once the the new growth started coming in.. I think once braids and cornrows started becoming popular, people just gravitated towards those since they looked better for a longer time than a Jheri curl..
Yeah man I expect around that time Jheri curl were out and braids and cornrows started more in and last longer terms to be worn out more longer term I guess. I guess everyone in the 80s, that was the hair trend at the time I suppose.
I used to get luster s curl out texturized put my hair a couple years back many times with curls and it’s a lot to try to keep it moist and it looks good when you first put it in the next day but it’s another thing to find products that’s right for your hair texture too cause your hair will itch and get dry. I used to wash my hair man after a few days or so when it needed to be washed and my curls hardly would look the same when I first put them in hurt my soul.
If you don’t mind me askin, how long ago was it when you had your Jheri curl when you was in middle school?
Hahahaha yeah, and it was back in the mid 00s.. 2005/6.. It was more of a blowout curl like yours.. I would try and keep it up, but it became apparent it I had one.. So eventually I gave up the ghost.. Lmao..
I think waves and brazilian kink weaves became the modern jheri curl

My grandma used to rock a jeri curl in the 90s and early 2000s but she said going out with a wet head was making her catch a cold too much
There was alott of maintenance
