I took a graphics design course where we were even taught how much sex sells in this way, and biased towards sexy female bodies. The course didn't delve into the deep psychology reasons for why but we studied marketing figures of sexy ads demonstrating how successful they can be. It's something every graphic designer needs to be aware about even if it seems rather in poor taste.
I'm admittedly delving purely into conjecture here but it seems to me as though men are much more visually-oriented than women, on average. There seems to be a lot of literature to back this up.
The vast majority of men are heterosexual so we can potentially attract a wide demographic with sexy images of women; at least many will look at such a sexy ad instead of ignoring it.
It's worth noting though that apparently homosexual men are just as visually-oriented as heterosexual men and are visually attracted to sexy-looking ads of attractive male bodies. Yet homosexual men make up a small minority of the male demographic. Something interesting though is that Playgirl magazine, while intended to appeal to women with sexy images of men, actually attracted a wider homosexual demographic than a female one.
I watched a 4 min YouTube ad the other day about a stupid pillow cause the female on it was extremely sexy.
That’s what brought me to ask this. It’s kind of interesting to think about the why.
I suspect the people who actually purchase the products and services of those ads are a very small percentage among those who look at it, but often the first graphic design goal is just to get people to look closely at the ad in the first place.
Yeah, especially a buxom blonde, from whom I'd probably be more likely to buy a product.
@handsomelad70 I'm a sucker for the red-heads myself! 🤝 Beautiful red-head makes it hard not to look at the ad.
If the red-head has big spuds, I'm all in !!!
depends on the product , this is done a lot but its not really the only way to sell something
Yepp and so sexy
