+1 yI'm a total adrenaline junkie. I actually think it's a psychological defect in my case. I just recently learned about sensation seekers and I test like this:

My SSS Results >> Alcohol use has been linked to sensation seeking, especially the disinhibition and experience seeking subscales. Research has found that peer sensation seeking levels are predictive of drug use.
>> High sensation seekers prefer listening to arousing music such as hard rock rather than classical instrumental. High sensation seekers are also more likely to enjoy surreal paintings over representational ones or unpleasant art forms (defined as presence of violent or aggressive content or themes of death and despair).
Those two seem especially true of me. The promiscuity/unfaithfulness and driving speed don't apply to me maybe because I've always been paranoid about hurting other people (emotionally or physically). It's about the only thing that keeps me from being completely reckless.
Yet I love disturbing art, horror, aggressive music, etc. I especially love artwork done by schizophrenics.

And actually find this type of music relaxing:
https://www.youtube.com/embed/ABsCPwpG4KYIn my case (and possibly many other people who score high on sensation seeking), I don't really feel right unless I'm on some type of adrenaline rush. I feel like a zombie instead. I only really feel alive when I'm doing something thrilling or exciting. It's what zaps me into consciousness while I mostly feel like I'm in hibernation mode the rest of the time.

I was also a sponsored vert skater when younger, like so, although this was on a mini-ramp (only 4 feet high and I had to borrow oversized pads to enter the contest):

I had to quit alcohol last year. I relied on binge drinking too much to simulate something like an adrenaline rush in mundane environments. I also became a gambling addict in my 20s and lost $11,000 USD one night, then quit gambling after that. I think for sane people, they make risk vs. reward assessments. For me, the risk is the reward.
Asker+1 yHomie got a full 10/10 lol

It's not a good thing. For example, I once asked the receptionist at a hotel in Los Angeles at 2 AM in the morning what the most dangerous part of LA was. He replied, "South Compton" and so I asked him to book a taxi for me there hoping something interesting and thrilling would happen.
Nothing happened. I walked around the streets of South Compton and an old nice man asked me what I'm doing wandering around the neighborhood and suggested I return home.
I look back on these things and I was young and seeking danger and excitement in my life but I think something was seriously wrong with me. Like some serious screws loose there. Yet I've always been attracted to seedy places, underground bars and clubs, casinos, places of this sort along with extreme sports, drugs, alcohol, gambling, etc: anything that presents a risky scenario was so alluring to me. - +1 y
It's like how certain people who aren't mentally or physically able to moderate drug use tend to graduate towards chasing bigger highs and harder drugs until they became total methheads and heroin junkies. I never got that far with narcotics, perhaps only because I never got to try the hardest stuff. Yet I got that way with my thrill seeking to the point where I was doing things like the above that resembled the actions of someone with a death wish.
Marriage helped me so much since it made me realize endangering my well-being all the time doesn't just endanger my own but my wife's as well. I've mellowed out so much since.
But it's still my ultimate psychological defect and struggle. I keep wanting to put myself in risky situations, even ones that offer no real reward, just for the thrill of it. - +1 y
LOL. Does she enjoy thrill/taking risks?
- +1 y
@StudyingAuthor Not nearly as much. She hates films but I did get her to try skateboarding on a vert ramp to the point where she could drop in and kick-turn. I was impressed because she kept falling learning how to drop in but kept trying again despite getting a massive bruise down the side of her leg. I enjoy bungee jumping but she has never joined me, although we have gone skydiving before (just tandem attached to our instructors; in Japan we aren't allowed to skydive on our own until we get extensive training).
She does seem to enjoy rollercoasters and amusement parks enough once we get there, although she doesn't want to go that often. If it were up to me, I'd want to go once a week!
She does enjoy alcohol and I don't mind that she drinks even though I've quit since she can actually moderate it and call it quits after 1-3 drinks with dinner, like a couple of glasses of wine. - +1 y
@StudyingAuthor Hates *horror films*, sorry [I love them].
- +1 y
ROFL. She sounds like the perfect one for u tho. Maybe calm down some of that hype. by the way. RU an aries?
- +1 y
@StudyingAuthor She definitely is a major inspirational source behind what semblance of sanity I have! ๐ I'm a Taurus with the astrology stuff.

You sound like my father (Stepfather, but her raised me.) he's an aries and the reason why I love thrill to this day. My mom is the same way but she doesn't ride drop towers.
- +1 y
@StudyingAuthor I love drop towers! I really enjoy the feeling of flying and falling above all else. I'm not so much a speed junkie as I am a height junkie. I really enjoy going fast but my favorite feeling is flying and falling.
I originally loved riding swings as a little boy and liked to stand on the swings. Then skateboarding on halfpipes seemed like the next step:

Since we get that same pendulum motion but no longer have to be constrained by chains or ropes attached to the boards we're standing on.

+1 yYeah I used to get it from fear. So I used to watch lots of horror movies alone as a kid and make up killer versions of games like hide n seek in the dark with my friends. Once we played in my house and my friend had a cake cutter and stabbed it in the shower curtain but luckily I was laying down in the tub and he didn't see me but it was fun and gave me a rush lol.

+1 yIt depends on my current situation, but I really like it quite often. This adrenaline rush in your veins, the clarity in your mind, and readiness in your body. The feeling is unique :D
Unfortunately, it is as addictive as other hormones and substances that affect our brain...11 Reply
Asker+1 yWell it's a good thing they don't have em in vials or it would be another drug lol

Yep adrenaline junkie here except if it's fights, then I get a panic attack. Also I do have ADHD and I thrive under stress and adrenaline.

Asker+1 yYou have ADHD since when? ๐
Asker+1 yWas that recent?
Asker+1 yThat must have its complications speaking of school, how are the studies? โป
Asker+1 yWait why aren't you allowed? Isn't that how you reduce the ADHDness? And well I hope you can catch up quickly so I can rob a bank, I'm waiting on you ๐
Asker+1 ySo what countermeasures have they given you that will stimulate your ADHD without taking stimulants? Are you aware about what's giving you anxiety? ๐
- +1 y
Nothing, she said I have to focus on my depression and anxiety first and get my weight up, after that, I can start taking adderall. Yep, it's a mix of my nature and the situation I live in. I'm also someone who gets anxious about things I can't control so that doesn't help for sure and I need to work on that. ๐ฅฒ
Asker+1 yOh yea the Addys work good, you gonna love em Lmao, I didn't know you had to be a certain weight tho, I don't get how that works but either ways I hope the adderal works for your ADHD, id say indica for the anxiety but it's possible it might give more anxiety so not without a prescription that's prescribed by a professional ๐
Asker+1 yWell it sounds like a lot Lisa, hopefully all the medication helps your problems and you can get back on studying and stuff ๐๐ค

Asker+1 yRoller coasters give adrenaline?
- +1 y
YES!!! Especially launch coasters. The anticipation alone makes you want to barf or wet your pants. Or S*** yourself.
Asker+1 yWell I never liked those things cause they can always malfunction and fly off, the older they are the worse, I've seen it around that's these rides in general are starting to fail lol
- +1 y
It's good to take risks. Like do a no hands challenge. I haven't flown off yet.

It makes me good in video games and in emergency situations. Not really sure what it would do for me in a talent show.
Most of my my talents are art related.
