Is 'ladies first' still a thing?

I remember one time some lady looked confused when I opened the door and let her go first, now I can open the door and people don't even say thank you, I don't even get the confusion from people anymore 😂

Should I start racing to get to the door first, just get to a random sprint and yell "WAAAIT... me first" heehee.

I absolutely do. I would never even consider rushing through a door first if there was a lady within about 3-5 steps of the door.

If it's a date, even a casual one, I walk around and open the car door, wait for her to get seated, then close the door.

I was also grew up believing "women and children first" - the scenario was a ship sinking and the women and children go in the life rafts first - if there is no room for the men, they die. I can't even imagine getting in a life raft while women or children are not safe. It doesn't have to be a ship. There are lots of scenarios where that could play out.

By the way, I've known several guys who use the car door thing as a test. That's not the reason why they open the door, but if she doesn't accept it gracefully, there won't be a second date.

It died when they stopped showing appreciation for it.

But you can still be polite to those men and women around you.. hold the door open after you and such. If they get snotty, well, not everyone had such a good upbringing as you did, right?

Coming from a student, multiple times a day will I be in a situation where groups of people are approaching a door. I'm pretty much always the person to open it, and keep it open until everyone's in, even of they're far behind.

My point is it's a common courtesy. Someone has to open the door. But if you do it and the person doesn't even thank you, that's their issue 😭

People are great with doors in my area, thank goodness. 98% say thanks and woman hold doors for men. So not woman first if bot first (which I am perfectly fine with, just ask for human respect thats given already)
The odd apples are the rude ones and most call them out loudly "You're welcome!". Its funny. 😁

here's just common... and just a gesture

not even a gender thing... if the situation fits, people just hold the door for you, or let you go first, and they say thank you and all that, and you just go on with your day

I've held doors for people all of the time. But knowing whether "ladies first" is still a thing, I wouldn't have a clue. All I know is it's nice to hold the doors for people. But there's nothing wrong with holding a door for ladies.
