Why do some people act like Beyonce didn't come out in the late 90's?

I keep seeing her be compared with newer artists, and that's odd to me because Bey came out in 1997 with Destiny's Child, Work It Out came out in 2002, and her debut album came out in 2003. Beyonce is also part of the TRL ERA. Beyonce really doesn't have anything to prove at all anymore, but for some reason people keep critiquing her and making all these think pieces about her, and I'm like,. Beyonce is still successful, having successful albums and number one singles, but I thought that at 42 years old, people would stop trying to use new mainstream starlets streams and stats against her. Beyonce is an established act and has been around forever. Like I said before, if you don't like her music or her in general, that's fine, but let's not act like her legacy hasn't been official for years now.

Because she's still popular (or at least popular enough), and the lust for novelty is very, very strong in these people. They like to pretend that anything past a certain point is only of concern to old people.

I mean, there was a point where Britney Spears was known for her MUSIC. To be fair, that only lasted for about twenty minutes, after which she was primarily known for her physique and her willingness to show it off, but it was quite a while before she became known primarily as a sad joke.

I'm not aware of Beyonce having anything similarly scandalous to her name (I'm sure there's some minor rumors of mild financial improprieties, or some stupid Twitter post made at some point or something), so they have to pretend she's new, lest she fall out of favor for being old.

Pop culture is just stupid sometimes.

DC harks back to the halcyon days of Black Girl Bands from Motown and South Philly.
Martha and the Vandellas. The Orlons, Chiffons, Supremes and then later, Pointer Sisters, En Vogue, Jade, SWV and finally DC. Modern Rap and Hip Hop has discouraged these types of performers, who were derived from Black Church Choir music, which goes back to Ela Fitzgerald and beyond. Some of the best and purest American music in history. I doubt there will be a resurgence because politics have destroyed traditional black culture. If you ever listen to white singer Peggy Lee, she had Black musical style.

Probably it is because she was entering a new genre.

Also, I think people will always be suspicious towards someone who started out in a girl band. Those bands are often highly produced and don't have much say in the music they put out. I don't know if that was the case for Destiny's Child, though. I will say their pop music was solid and their hits still hold up, which is impressive.

What blows me away is all this talk about "Blackbird" and what a retro visionary she is! "Blackbird" has been covered roughly 278 times since 1966, by artists ranging from Ramsey Lewis, Jose Feliciano, Carly Simon, Neil Diamond to Sarah McLaughlan, Adrian Belew and Al DiMeola. I never heard any talk about how visionary they all were, or politically correct they and all the other artists who re-did the song were. It's just funny because " It's Beyonce, and she's popular and has won more Grammy's than anyone else".
