I guess my definition of kindness is "to behave in a manner that aligns with the accepted societal norms of constructive conduct."
Actually helping a person. It might mean saying what others consider "mean" or "offensive". And we might mess up but we're just trying our best.
If I see a boy being beat up all the time at school and crying in a corner, I know the conventional way to be "kind" is to be outraged. "You shouldn't be bullied! What has the world come to?"
But I do a different way. I want to lend a firm hand up to his feet and I especially want to look tough in this situation. And I encourage him but not demand him to wipe away his tears. I tell him he can be as strong or as weak as he likes. This is in his power.
He doesn't realize his power here because he lets the weight of the world crush him. And this is why he is crying in the corner because he has nothing he feels like he has power to do. I try to give him this power. I lend him this strength. It is not my power or my strength. It was his all along.
I favor this way because there's no guarantee that he won't be bullied in the future, and there's no guarantee that I will be around. So I want him to be able to handle it himself without me, without anyone. I want him to be able to handle it alone.
And that's true kindness in my opinion. Lots of people conflate ass-kissing with kindness. Say what someone wants to hear today to be kind and ignore what makes them miserable tomorrow.
And to me, that's not kind. It's not kind to give participation trophies to kids who won't be rewarded with promotions for participation in their workplace. That is not kindness. That is cruelty masked as kindness.
Be sympathetic with your family, strangers, and with yourself. I always greet people total strangers on my way to work, back to home... like shop owners, neighborhood around my job place... etc.
people now greet me first when they sees me first with smile on their faces.
That's the teachings of Islam which I try my best to practice my faith even with my shortcomings. May Allah be blessed with me and all muslims that are doing good actions seeking to bless their lord. 😊
My description is more along the lines of an "Act of Kindness".
Something someone does or says that lifts a persons spirits with no intention of getting any kind of recognition for doing it.
Generosity of time, attention, presence, thought, or any other natural gift for the benefit of another without seeking reciprocation
Itvis, when somebody takes the time to help you in some way.
Empowering others to live how they wish, so long as how they wish to live is not malevolent.
Helping someone just cuz. Like holding the door open for a stranger
When you do something with nothing to gain from it.
Helping someone when you get nothing out of it in return
Whatever the dictionary says
