Initially Maybe so, we used to sleep at night and stay awake at day, during Triassic Era, when we were Marsupials. Basically in Dino ERA , we were better Suited to survive against Dino during Day, but would go and Hide during night, it was out best chance..
But as we evolved to monkeys, like beings. We started to Live on trees and Some of us, Started to Stay Awake all night long, to ensure no Predators climbed up trees, it was at this point we were able to learn about night sky, the moon and seasons. This taught us, when and where to look for food,
Then we came down from Trees like Hunters, wandering in Bands, with sticks and stones... We knew when the trees would blossom, and we we knew when it would rain and rain would bring Bison and buffaloes to fresh new grass, Thus we can get meat.
Humans have a unique ability of SWEATING!.. This ability makes us capable of walking/running for days, without heating up, so we Ran DAY and NIGHT!.. so Yes OFTEN WE DIDN'T SLEEP DURING NIGHT!..
Then we discovered Agriculture, and settled down on arable land, once we Settled down, 20% of our whole Tribe (especially men) would stay awake at night and keep watch. To the rest tribe can sleep properly!..
Suddenly came industrial revolution and in last 500 years we went from sleeping when "Exhausted and safe" to "sleeping at night" .. but our internal Biology still disagrees with this new routine..
Most of us still cannot sleep, if we are not exhausted or feel unsafe. Then we cannot sleep..
😂Medical science says it's Insomnia😂It's not insomnia 😂It's your ability your ancestors developed where they walked for days and Ran for hours to hunt or to escape predators. Just use your ability wisely..
Stick to a schedule if you can, and make sure you are Exhausted 2 hours before you scheduled sleep time..

For humans yes, we biologically wired like other mammals to sleep at night and be awake during the day. It has been shown that being in complete darkness increases quality of sleep, and being up at night tires you quicker. This why night workers are always exhausted.
It has been shown that people up at night are more likely to suffer from insomnia, mental health issues and other brain conditions.

I'm a night owl, so...
live the night... and sleep the day away Kind of. But I view nighttime as a time to stay up and maybe socialize too, not just for sleeping.
