Once. I was walking out of a store and they basically detained me. All I had on me was my wallet phone and keys. I politely yet firmly explained that once they searched me, I would be broadcasting their behavior to social media, the news and calling the police for unlawful detainment. It was a chain store, and one I had made signs for (use to be a sign maker) and so I called their corporate office once it was over had got everyone involved with detaining me fired, including their managers.

I could understand if I had actually stolen something, or if they had reasonable cause to think I had, but all I did in that store was hike up my damn pants.

Yes I have. The job I was at accused me of stealing and fired me. They eventually found out it wasn't me and offered me my job back. I refused because if there was no trust, I don't want to work there.

Yes, but they had a good reason in my case, though in the end the misunderstanding was cleared up.

I was in a bad financial spot and had worn the same shoes for 4 years. They got to the point where they were cutting and rubbing skin off my heal, even with a triple layer of socks. So I got a cheap replacement pair from Walmart, immediately put them on, tore the tag off and threw my old ones in a trash can. I went straight to the register with the tag and explained to the cashier what I was doing. She understood and gave me no issues.

One of the cameras were down so all AP saw was me throwing something in a trash can and then walking out with nothing. They pulled both me and the cashier into the office, even though I had a receipt. They thought the cashier simply was not doing her job and letting me walk out with stuff, which incidentally is NOT her job to stop anyone. While we were in the office, security went to the trash can and found the old shoes, then found the entrance camera to confirm I walked in with those same shoes on.

Sounded like rotten luck. Glad you were able to clear it up. And for the cashier, too. I witnessed a similar thing with spray paint. The company seems notorious for picking on the cashiers.
