Lake Huron. I was out walking around Lake Huron with friends one day and we started skipping stones on the water. A couple of guys were doing really well, I was barely passable, but one of the women friends beat us all... She picked up her first stone... aimed... and let it fly... missing the lake completely... the girl MISSED 23,000 sq miles of lake! None of us are ever going to let her forget it lol

I live somewhere on this sticky out bit of the UK, so I'm surrounded by water on most sides. I live about 15 mins from the sea but I can reach just about anywhere in the pic in under an hour so it's all my playground.

As well as being surrounded by sea it contains the 2nd deepest natural port in the world, the river cleddau, plus a few lakes, loads of streams and salt marsh.

I don't think I could ever give up the ocean if I moved. There just needs to be REAL beaches, fishing, jet skiing, sandy dunes, off roading, charter boats, etc. there's no substitute for a life on the water.

I know… you could blindfold me, drive me all over the country and I would smell it when i got within a few miles lol I go to the ocean for everything…there is a gut level emotional connection. That’s why I prefer bodysurfing to board surfing. There’s magic being immersed in that 12 foot wave…then over the falls and thrown around in the turbulence until she rolls me over and spits me out on the wet sand. Then I stand up and play with making footprints until I catch my breath and head right back out to catch another one…sigh

I could hit a golf ball into the Atlantic Ocean from my front lawn. Or, like…. someone who knows how to golf…THEY could do it. Probably not me, lmao.

Kinda foggy today, but it’s out there, I promise, haha. I gotta take care of those weeds in the turnaround😅

The beautiful warm waters of the Atlantic Ocean. FYI, I believe something like 90% of the earth’s population live w/in 50 miles of the ocean, or a navigable lake or river that leads to one. I could be, and likely am wrong, but I could swear I read that somewhere. ¯\_(ッ)_/¯

For Europe it’s 50% as well

As I looked, it’s 40% of the global population live within 100km of the coast.

However over 50% of world population live with 3km of a body of water (rivers etc).

Rivers and seas have always been the major trade and communication routes, although the latter not so much from invention of telegraph and radio.

I figured I was off on the percentage, but I knew the number was really high. by the way, I believe the numbers in that source do NOT include those who live near navigable lakes and rivers which connect to an ocean, and that number 50% is just the number of people living w/in 50 miles of the oceanic coastline or that of a sea. I believe when one does add in those who live w/in 50 miles of the great lakes and other lakes which are navigable to the gulf of Mexico, especially down the Mississippi, that number increases substantially , but I doubt it gets to the 90% number I gave. (That is why I have so much respect for those who include links to sources when absolute facts are involved) Again, I applaud you, thanks 🙏

@RebelinSteel Ah! Okay I WAS correct. it that source the wrote "only 10% of the population lives further than 10 km away.” Meaning that 90% lives within 10km (6.21 miles). I deliberately used the more common 50 mile metric, as most of the stats I’ve seen used that 50 mile figure (50 miles = 80.46km). So by your source 90% of the population lives within 6.21 miles of a body of water. Excellent thanks. I appreciate more than you know, you taking the time to go back and get that second source. No, I don't live near any body of water. I wish I lived near the beach, but it takes me about 3 hours to get here if I use public transportation. If I had a car, it would still take a lot of time to get there. 😕

I live in a desert. It might be a couple hundred miles before I ran into any sizable body of water and I couldn't even tell you what the closest one is.

Yes, we life not far from a mouth of two rivers and Smaler quarry lakes both options can be used for swimming. Which can be great in summer.

The traffic is crazy, families are being priced out of the housing market, and it’s just not the laid back place my family enjoyed for so many generations. Then I got married at 22 and my husband is 15 years older with a career that requires international travel a good percentage of the time so who even own a home. We could afford it, but our values are that we would rather use that money to fund humanitarian projects and live cheaper. That’s it, but not in a nutshell lol
