Do you always feel compelled to explain why you don't like someone or something? How do you feel about doing that?

Question

I always notice how when a person says they like someone or something usually they don't feel the need to explain why. However when they say they don't like someone or something they do feel the need to explain. and not without reason, people that hear that do often want to know why too. I think maybe the default should be they shouldn't have to explain but if others do want to know you can expand more. but regardless do you feel compelled to explain?

If it’s a  negative  thing, they either  hate  it so much they want others to share their hate and passion for dislike. It could be a method of persuasion, or they feel they need to  educate  the other (s) (who may like that particular thing or that particular someone), as to why it could be bad and harmful in some way- hence the original person disliking it. Like a poor quality wheel chair, back brace, or something. They hate the lack of reliability and/or durability, so they then wish to  persuade  or  inform  others on why it’s bad in general, or just simply how much they hate it, and then they hope the others will also hate it because we tend to like humans who have *things in common with us,* we enjoy positive *camaraderie and like *compatibility- or people compatible with/ like us. Those who get/understand us. If it’s a  positive  thing, then they hope others will take their word for it, and *also see it as a  positive  thing. Or they just want to inform others, that’s something about them. I. e. They  like  watermelon. They  love  polka dot shoes.  Some may explain the positive things because they want others to like it or they may feel that they themselves shouldn’t like it. They may also want to feel associated with it and explain a bit about it to seem as if they truly know it. I. e. They love Justin Bieber and  know  all his songs. He’s “cool” and thus everyone should like Justin Bieber cause what’s ‘Not’ to like? 🤷‍♀️  Coolness by association. They hope others will like Justin because that person said they liked his work or other. In either instance, positive or negative, a person may explain the why if they feel some sort of guilt about hating or loving something. They wish to in those cases justify why their liking/loving/disliking/hating it is a good thing, and the object or person they reference is either good or bad. According to them.

Quite honestly, ever since what happened to me when I was 13, I don't ever really feel compelled to do anything. As far as something tangible like food or an outfit; no, if I don't like it, I don't feel compelled to explain why. Although if I would explain. Ideas on the other hand, are little different. usually if it's an idea or a belief that somebody has that I don't approve of or like per se, I will usually explain my rationale for not liking that particular idea, concept, or belief.

I don't feel compelled to explain why I don't like someone, but I often will anyway, just so my perspective on things is on record. I've had a lot of situations in life where people distort my intentions and then blow up based on their misinterpretation. That gets really fucking annoying. So I like to provide explanations so that people don't let their imaginations get the better of them.

If I've gotten to the point that I actively don't like you, there are very specific reasons for my dislike that I can point to. You don't need to guess.

If you don't explain yourself, people will do this weird mental calculus to try and intuit a reason. The explanation is a quick and easy way to avoid that garbage. People are really stupid and their imaginations are even worse.

Nah I never explain and tbh most of the time I don’t fully know myself. Case in point I don’t like, in fact I hate macaroni cheese, I don’t know why, however I am fine with lasagna, with a pasta bake.
With people it’s often a feeling or they have done or said something.

I usually don't. There is a group I talk to sometimes and to them I sometimes feel like I have to. They like what everyone else likes, so they act all shocked if I say no to something.
