Guys, do you agree with James Evans’s reaction of Good Times of Thelma’s older boyfriend?

When Thelma is overly secretive about her new beau, the family, particularly Florida and James, is already curious as to whom the mystery man in her life is. The two start to become suspicious that Thelma is trying to hide him from them. When Thelma, who's been dating Donald for the past 2 months, buckles in and decides to introduce him to the family, to say the least, we are all shocked to see that he is much older than her; frankly, he is about the age of James!

When Donald presents an engagement ring as he and Thelma announce their plans to marry, Florida and James are not exactly thrilled with the news as Donald, who, at age 42, is more than twice Thelma's age, has the question posed to him by James as to why someone his age would be interested in his 17-year-old daughter. He says he is genuinely in love with her.

Guys, if you were a father, how would you feel and would say for an answer if your daughters boyfriend was 42 and she’s 27 she claims she loves him, what would you say?

Lou Gossett Jr., who played the boyfriend, is about the same age as John Amos, who played James Evans.

Gossett was born in 1936 and died a few months ago.

Amos was born at the end of 1939.

When this episode was filmed, 1974, Amos was 34 and Gossett was about 38. Amos always played older than he was. Ester Rolle, who played Florida, the mother, was born in 1920.

By the way, Jimmie Walker (James Evans, Jr. or "J. J.") will be 77 June 25. John Amos, who played James Evans, Sr., is merely 71/2 years older than his elder TV son.
