Would people with real problems actually spend their time posting their elaborated dramatic story on Reddit?

I'm wondering of many of the Reddit posters are trolls with creative writing skills. Seriously, you got cheated in the worst manner, you got disowned by your own parents, you're undergoing suicidal crisis, you're getting evicted from your house, you're having extreme depression, etc and you're going to take all your sweet time posting on Reddit about your dramatic event?

I've run into several, long, well detailed and elaborated stories there that they look too real to be true.

If you believe it’s fake, don’t engage with it. Reddit has an algorithm same as every other platform. If you read it, you tell the algorithm you want to see more of it. Whether or not it’s real or for attention, it doesn’t change the fact that these things happen and sometimes people want advice, or support. R/AITA is notoriously filled with posts either describing actual abuse someone suffered through, or the most heinous actions committed by another person and how they feel no remorse and can’t understand why they’re being rejected. Maybe instead of browsing your main feed you just look at the individual boards? The main feed will only show you the most engaging posts from each subreddit anyway

If they don’t have anyone IRL to confide in or vent to then yeah, I’d imagine they’d spend their time on those apps if they feel heard and helped. Just as people come here seeking answers or opinions as well.

I understand that. Though when it's real, the writing tends to sound different vs when it's fake. When it's real, it can be a bit shorter and it focuses on the main problem. When it's fake, you tends to be way more elaborated on the scenary, time and overall setting.

If that is their want then so be it. I mean, what if their way of dealing with their situation is to ask what other people would do?
Not something I would do, but it seems feasible to me.

I guess but several of them are actually fake stories. Some are too elaborated for it to even be true.

If I offer to help someone I don't think too much about the truth aspect. I figure, if it's true I'll help, if not? I at least get some typing practice!

True. I don't mind trolls. I actually laughed at several of the fake stories. My question was more like sarcasm as if saying ''you're having a whole bunch of serious trouble and Reddit is the first thing you can think of, ummm, ok, lol''.

Yes I know many people are undergoing hardships in life but if you've seen the stories, many of them are too descriptive to even be a real situation. They elaborate so much on the setting, timing and scene that you can still it's fake.

some people are just better at writing and expressing in detail, that's all...

there's also fake stories with awful writing and you can also tell they're fake AF so...

not a good idea to correlate one with the other... also, remember we're living in the AI era, in which with just a couple of clicks you can rewrite any text just like that

Three categories are: made up, embellished real stories and honest real stories. That's probably also the order of frequency.

Their will always be fake stories attention seeking but without a doubt some will be real

Exactly. I posted a similar questions earlier about reddit. They all look so made up.

They might. Sometimes I post my problems on Reddit if I want advice given from the worst faith interpretation of my situation possible.
