First Fender Bender ever?

This isn't a gender based question, but really just a "Im young did something stupid and need adult advice question". Had a small fender bender left a small dent however the people I hit escalated the situation by including a gun. I paid them for the damages done but I'm scared of identity theft, doesn't help I lost my ID at a self service car wash. I'm 99%sure the vacuum sucked up my ID. What can I change or handle to protect myself and money?

This is an open ended question with a metric ton of possible answers. And all of them would have merit.

What worked for me when I was younger is something that I use up to this day. And it's one word. Routine. If you always do things in the same way, put a certain things in a certain spot, check yourself in a quick once over before leaving the house, you will almost never go wrong. It sounds terribly boring, but it becomes something you do almost without thinking after a while. And that's the aim of it.

And one last thing. Keep yourself and the areas you live in, neat and uncluttered. If something is not currently in use, pack it away. If it's trash, dump it immediately. The more cluttered and untidy your enviroment is, the more unorganized and undisciplined your brain becomes.

Okay this story is confusing. You hit another car and they pulled a gun on you? Then you paid them? Then you yammering about ID theft and honestly can't make much sense of this.

I was trying to summarize the whole thing. Yes they I was threatened by the same people I hit and yes I paid them. They were illegally parked but I hit them and don't have insurance plus I didn't want anything to escalate any more than it had already and paid them what they asked for and they left. I was worried that after they saw me go to the ATM and all that my information might've been at risk. Me having already lost my ID at a car wash didn't help.
