I was thinking to probably overwater them or something... but I won't be in town to water them for a whole week.

Also some plants even if they prefer 2x per week won't die if you miss watering once. Maybe your plant needs less water than you think. Go research how much water your plant actually needs.
Over watering a plant is never going to help in my opinion. Usually plant pots have a way for excess water to leave the pot and go into a saucer looking platter thing on the bottom where it evaporates. If that doesn't happen then the water could drown your plant. Most likely the excess water would just overflow the bottom and get on your floor/table.
When a plant takes in water, it is also sweating out water (eventually) at the leaves. It's not like it has a belly to hold water like a camel. You can make it draw in water faster by having more air blowing on the leaves tho so make sure you don't leave a fan blowing on your plant.
There are small irrigation systems you can buy which is basically a little timer with a water pump and you hook little tubes up with little sprinkler (irrigation) heads. It will water a plant for you automatically. Last time I checked the cheap ones are maybe $25.

1 yIf you water them good, they should be alright for a week, love.
In the future, if you do travel for awhile, you can get something that the plants can use to self water themselves. Moss also helps plants keep moisture in, while you travel. 💜00 Reply

1 yThere is a little trick a florist friend of mine told me a few years back. Feed the plants lemonade (the fizzy stuff) before you go as plants take longer to drink it. You don't have to give the any more than usual, just the same amount as it id was water The fizzier the better!
21 ReplyUPDATE:-
I wanted to make sure I was telling you correctly so I called and asked if I was right.. What you do is:-
Feed the plants the same amount of water as you would normally. Once it has soaked in, add the same amount again with lemonade. That will keep the plants going for a week. In this heat though, put them if you can in the shade. Keep them out of direct sunlight.
Fill up a glass with water, tear up an old cotton shirt cut them in 1 inch wide 8 or 12 inches long depending the height of the cup and top of the pot. The cup should be shorter than pot, get the fabric wet, wring it out, twist it place part in the glass and the the rest over the pot and onto the soil. The water will soak up into the pot slowly. Make sure to put the glass up against the pot or have a something under the pot to catch some residual that might drip down.

1 yWhenever we go away, my wife (our gardener) asks one of our neighbors to water the plants. She returns the favor by watering theirs when they go away.
Suggest you build such a relationship with a neighbor.
21 ReplyThat's good advice Tom, as long as you can trust them not to steal anything of course!
Anonymous(36-45)1 yI would personally use a cotton wick system, as I've learned survival skills and seen how effective it is for filtering water. Fill up a large container of water. Then take cotton rope and run it from the bottom of the container to the plants. The cotton acts like a wick to slowly draw out the water.

1 yWhat kind of plants firstly, but most plants you find a large plate or feeder type try then place some rock in the bottom so the pot is out of the water and they should still get something from the evaporation also you could put a see through bag over them to stop the water from evaporating into the air. That is what I do anyway or ask someone to water them

I thought you said 7 weeks you shouldn't water most plants unless the soil gets bone dry but I depends on how warm it is how often you water them but less is always better for most plants you don't want to get root rot or something

Because I'm growing my own plants and I don't want them to die? Like what the hell dude? I have a life and yes it consists of fun things such as going on vacation and while I'm on vacation I don't want the plants I worked hard on to die.
- 1 y
My dog is at an animal hospital and will be there for the entire vaction. And everybody close to my fam that they would trust in our house is going on vacation with us.
And what the fuck do you think you're doing ordering me around? From what I know you're a guy online who I don't know. I would never do shit that you tell me. I'm not gullible or fragile I'm not asking for you to instruct me on how to live my life, I'm asking for advice. GET A LIFE! - 1 y
Ha! Watch... you ain't my daddy and you for sure don't know me. Don't think you can boss me around. If you got a problem with me take it up with God or just block me.
And no... just family. Nobody is that cozy round here. - 1 y
No, I'm leaving tonight... and ever since my parents decided to take me out of school and monitor my email so I don't speak to my friends I haven't had a single friend.

Who cares? Obviously you don't. You want to demand things from me and act like I'll follow your instructions.
- 1 y
Ha! I won't do shit. You may not know this but submitting to what a person tells me to do... even what my parents tell me to do is nearly impossible. I don't follow instructions and I sure as the devils burning fires in hell won't follow yours.
