Anyone else grew up with their family using random empty containers to store other things?

Question

I can't be the only one seeing laundry detergent powder in a sour cream container or the dishwasher machine as a storage room for pots and pans.

All the time! Nothing wrong with it. As long as you don't go overboard on it! Save A FEW empty soup cans but throw the rest away!! If you keep saving them, you won't live long enough to use them all!!
Y'know those Styrofoam trays hamburger comes in? I used those all the time. If I'm cooking burger and needed to blot off the excess grease when I'm done, get a paper towel folded in half, put it on one of those trays. put the burger on the towel and squeeze out the excess grease onto the towel! When you're done, throw out the towel AND the tray. Or, if it's a big long tray, I use that with a paper towel to make sandwiches on so I can carry out both sandwiches with one hand and not make a mess. Smaller trays would go on the counter next to the sink with 3 empty cans on it so that, when you use the cans to pour off excess grease into or you need to dump sloppy garbage or egg shells into them, you shouldn't make a mess because the tray will catch it all, hopefully. Garbage time comes, toss the cans and the tray and use a new one.

It's pretty typical to take containers like this, rinse it out and then store something in it like screws, nails, bolts, nuts, washers, wire nuts, wire terminals, or anything else that is small and numerous.

No plastics till we came to US.
so it used to be glass jars/jugs…

in the US… always reuse Chinese take out plastic containers… usually for dried goods (beans, oak meal etc). So we can see through. Or label and put dates.
also reuse pasta sauce jars. Glasses are better.. however, we tried to only buy what we need so to not store too much.
my parents store dried goods inside dish washes.

we use our dish washes. I’m fine either way…
