- I had a series of dreams lately, and I recalled and took notice of my “ability,” to hear people in my dreams talking- whether myself and/or others.
It made me wonder:
How do we perceive SOUND in our dreams? Our ears aren’t really hearing those voices and noises in the real world/ real time. So how do our brains communicate these “sounds” to us?

Is it perceptive illusions/hallucinations?
Is that what dreams really are? If not, how is this possible?
Just curious. Thoughts?

I mean, I suppose it’s the same thing for visual images- seeing things not really there. Isn’t that essentially an illusion/hallucination? Probably so because we’re not fully conscious- so in a way, not “sober?” I’m really not too sure on this.

While you dream, some parts of your brain are more active than others. Regions involved in sensory processing, memory, and emotion fire off lots of messages, while the parts responsible for logic and reasoning quiet down.
Have a look at this clip that can help you understand the processes involved when you dream.
https://www.youtube.com/embed/VB7NkWCf5AcWhile "hearing" voices in dreams is rather uncommon, it could be the sign of a possible underlying mental health condition.
I am not trying to insinuate anything here. This is an issue that has been described in a number of medical publications.
Have a look at this paper
GaG prevents me to send you a medical link describing the entire process. It returns a notice stating "you have some content that GaG does not like".
Strange, I have never seen this type of warning in more than 5 years. Sorry for not being able to send you the link.
Thanks I’ll definitely check it out! And not worried about “voices” as they don’t tell me to do anything and it’s only in dreams and not in wakeful life. I even hear my own voice in the dream saying whatever I was intending to say, but still helpful to know! I appreciate the additional clip as well! And your kind reply 😊👍💯
I just googled it and I would say the dream I was referring to (of mine) was more of an ‘auditory dream.’
Good to hear that you could check it out. I did not want to scare you with my reference to mental health condition. A pity that GaG would not allow me to copy the link of this medical site that explains.
I sent GaG a request for clarification as to why my link was blocked. They don't block links to pornographic content yet they do it for medical sites. Go figure!
Dreams are just your brain processing data. Memory, feelings, informations.
Sound (including voices) is just an information, a signal sent by the ear to the brain. Nothing weird in thinking that your brain can produce such a signal by himself.
