Do you see yourself through a realistic lens?

Hey Guys and Gals,

It's a common problem for folks to be overly harsh and critical of others while offering themselves way too much leeway to say and do unsavory things... I fell prey to someone who decided to relentlessly harass me with critiques and thought of this verse.

While I know all too well that none of us is perfect, that I have my flaws and know them well, constantly working to correct them and accepting constructive feedback when it's offered, I also see myself realistically, knowing also that not every bit of crap someone serves up as truth is, in fact, true.

Many people choose to be overly harsh and critical of others to avoid turning that critical eye on themselves...

I've never been afraid to turn the harshest light on myself... It prevents me from judging others unfairly.

I'd like to think/hope that I do. I'm pretty critical of myself.

I think I have above average intelligence (which isn't completely baseless. I've taken an Oxford IQ test when I was much younger and although I can't remember the number, they did evaluate me as having above average IQ). And there's other evidence that I won't go into 😂

I would say I'm average in physical attractiveness (I'm usually considered attractive to dark, brown, and tan skin people and below average when it comes to white and Asian people).

I think I'm a kind person. (I'd like to think the majority of people think the same 😅)

And I think I'm also too lazy and procrastinate everything more than I should. It's one of the biggest obstacles for me in life. Getting out of my own ass.

Overall I think I'm an average person that's just trying to be a little happier in life, like most people in the world.

No I'm pretty honest about myself I am one of the nicest guys you will ever meet and at the same sentence I am biggest prick or I can be if I'm pushed to be that person I mean there's good and bad and everybody I'm good until somebody makes me bad and even then it takes a lot to be provoked and pushed and I can still walk away but there comes a moment in time where I won't but I'm a giver of self I'm going to give her everything if I have it you need it it's yours until you start taking my kindness as weakness and just using me I can handle it once or twice and I just kind of smile about it to myself but then same with that enough will be enough

I was very critical of myself throughout elementary and high school. Once I received enough validation in high school and college from others without even trying, then I finally began to see what others were seeing. Plus after college, i began practicing self love… so i’m not as hard on myself anymore. But anytime a relationship or friendship fails, i definitely sink into a self-critical hole for a week or two. I question what I did wrong. However, I refuse to sink alone. I will continue to tell others what they did wrong as well. Either they go down alone or we go down together, but I won’t the one sinking solo, especially when I wasn’t the only one at fault. I’m not ride or die unless I’m already dying and thats when they’re pretty much forced to ride it out with me. Thats probably a toxic trait of mine but it is what it is

I judge myself far more harshly than I judge others. I hold myself to significantly higher standards than I hold others to, and condemn myself for things that I wouldn't bat an eyelash at if someone else did it.

I try to not be too harsh on myself but I also try to hold myself to the same standards that I apply to others. When I get upset with my wife about something, I frequently ask myself if I am guilty of the same or a similar sin.

I lie to myself like we all do but I've become much more reflective since my health crises and studying stoicism And Buddhism have helped a lot. I could do a better job being fully honest with the guy in the mirror tho

I try not to be too hard on myself but then again I typically don't do things that would make me need to shine the light on myself.

Parents taught me to keep my nose clean and respect other people, until they disrespect you.

I am my own worst critic. I have been chasing some impossible version of myself. I have multiple college degrees, run marathons, learned many skills, got married and raised a family and had two successful careers.

50/50. I try to see myself as I really am, but I will always be a biased party. I try to be honest with myself though because it helps me grow and be honest with others as well.
