Will it be hard for me to rent this duplex?

I have a duplex house that was built in 1993 it needs some work but I’m not handy. I was thinking about renting it. But there are a few problems.. there was a rat and roach problem a few years ago it’s under control now and pest controls comes every 3 months , their is not central air i have wall ac and wall heaters , there is no living room it’s only bedrooms and it’s rugs are dark brown hasn’t been changed in awhile. I don’t have time or money to do all the fixer up but i was thinking about renting it for cheap… around $700 a month

First of all, if you are not handy, rental properties are going to cost a heck of a lot more to maintain. You should at least learn the basics.

It doesn't sound like a good property. But almost anything can be rented out. Where I live $700 might be too high for a property like that - kinda borderline. But you really need to check locally, not someplace like GaG. Nobody here knows what places rent for where you live.

Then you shouldn't have rental properties. You need enough of your own money to maintain the place, pay the taxes, and other expenses, in case it goes several months without any tenants.

Assuming it will always be rented will get you in trouble. And what if you have a hard time getting your tenants to pay? What if they trash the place and leave? Any property owner will tell stories like that. It's part of the business and you have to assume it will happen. If you can't afford to keep it up now, how will you afford it if they trash the place and leave you with thousands of dollars of repairs and cleanup?

Sht mate , would still be 2k per month in Australia , maybe just do the rugs its gotta be worth more than $700 , if you go too cheap , you will get a drug den in there cooking meth , just go for the obvious superficial stuff , and double the price , check market rates carefully.

You’ll have to fix it to a bare minimum for someone decent to rent it but you’ll get double what you’re asking and that will pay for what you fixed in no time if you borrow money to pay for it to be fixed, you own it so you can deduct the taxes and interest unless that’s not your primary residence but it’s a capital improvement usually

Depends on location. It sounds like it would work best in a college town with students that mostly need a place to crash. No living room would be weird if there were no alternate area for people to congregate. Does it have a kitchen?

When you say "I was thinking about renting it", that means you were going to pay to live there. You are supposed to say "I was thinking about putting it up for rent" or "I was thinking of renting it out" or something like that to make it clear that you were not going to be the tenant.
