How much rent could I afford?

I take home around 1008 dollars every two weeks. However I own caged animals and a dog. Phone bill (75.00), health insurance (193), dental (48), student loan (38 ), then I have hulu and prime ( I believe it's now 12 and 14 bucks) and car insurance is about 190. I spend about 180 monthly on animal stuff (I buy in bulk for most things so I tend not have to buy stuff every month for my pets).

Of course then you have to figure out internet etc I might as well forget it. I live with my mother and pay her 500 a month. Trying to figure out how to move out. But I need a roommate I think

I assume all those number except your income are monthly. They add up to $750, and you are taking home around $2167 a month. So you have around $1417 left over. You didn't mention food. The cost of food can vary greatly, depending on the kind of stuff you buy. You also didn't mention transportation costs, which can also vary greatly. You didn't mention utilities either, which can also vary a lot.

You could probably afford around 400-1000 a month for rent, depending on what those unknown expenses are and how good you are at being frugal. Just from what you listed, it looks like you aren't good at being frugal.

Whether the money you can spend for rent is enough depends on where you live, and whether you have roommates to share expenses. I don't know what country you are in, but in the US the cost of rent can vary more than five to one, in some cases more than that.

I say stay at home for now, and start saving as much money as you can.

It's $400 max. for rent, which means probably renting a room. Stay at home until the housing market crashes, then use that $400 to buy a house instead of rent. Look at Bigger Pockets to learn the different ways to do this, especially "house hacking." They have a lot of expensive courses but a lot of good information for free, and people you can talk to, brokers, realtors, investors, the whole spectrum. In 5 years you could have spent $24,000 on rent. Or you can own a 4 bedroom house and another house to rent out.

You could look into renting a room in someone else’s house. More space, not a relative.
