My boyfriend doesn’t want to pay rent?

He’s been at my apartment for over a year now and I’ve asked him many times to pay rent and he says he can’t afford it. We work the same job and make the same wage, he says it’s because I’m expensive and that apparently he spends so much money on me he can’t afford to pay, I’m literally only asking him for $400 a month which is less than half of the rent I’m struggling to pay bills and get food for myself and I haven’t had any money to spend on just me because I pay for everything. Is it even worth trying or should I just call the relationship off

Calling off relationship on the ground of non-payment of rent, I think is not a logical way.

I understand it's a financial stress for you however you should make him understand by explaining that it is unaffordable for you to manage all the things alone.

Don't leave him rather ask him to rent another home for himself and tell him you are also moving to some other house because of the high rent.

Once you both wil have the sufficient funds and no financial issue then you both can jump again for a better home.

For the time you both need to rent small home.

This might make him understand.
