I'm living near a busy road right now. Do any of you think that blowing your horn other when someone hasn't noticed the lights helps?

90% of the time when someone blows their horn my comment is "Okay, your horn works." Rarely is blowing the horn useful, since it's normally done after the fact, hardly ever as a warning about something bad about to happen.

I would say a slight “beep” when someone doesn't see that the light has changed, and ten seconds have passed is acceptable. Other than that your horn is literally ONLY for emergency use! Unless someone is about to hit you, or get hit by you, it is illegal to use your horn! I’m sorry you have to deal with that. I would recommend going to city hall and requesting enforcement in that area. I know when we had people speeding down our road every day, (I mean like 60 in a 25) my dad went to city hall during the city council meeting, and requested police enforcement of the speed limit on our street. There were cops there maybe a week later, and they wrote so many tickets they came back every day for weeks! Nobody speeds. down our street anymore. I truly hope you are able to find a way to put a stop to people abusing their horns. I cannot imagine how annoying that is. Everyone deserves peace in their own home! I’m sorry you are going through this!

I like to say that horns are to be used only to signal danger, not to annoy people at the green light. I might even think that I'm legally right to say what I say. But I never checked up the laws on this matter lol

Around here the horn is mostly used to say hello to your friends as you drive past or to tell people you've arrived and waiting for them outside.

When I honk, they go. I live 3 houses from the corner of the 5th busiest intersection in the city. The fire and police sirens bother me a lot more than the honking.
