There was an episode of, "The Outer Limits" about 30 years ago, I think it was called, "The Cloud" (I'd have to check), it was about us in the future where, as soon as we're born, we have this small metal plate attached to the side of our head and wired directly to our brain and, from that day on, if you want to know something, look something up or talk to anyone (like you do on a phone) you just think it and this device, which is connected to a huge main computer, will get you what you want to know or who you want to call.
Flip phones and slider phones are still smartphones - they are just not as popular designs.
But the phone formfactor is becoming obsolete as the smartwatch, AR glasses, smart ring, smart circlet and other device forms become more prevalent and cost effective.
It is mostly cheaper cost that is keeping the phone formfactor going.
Look up transhumanism. I won't go into details it is semi-related, I merely think it would be possible.
I'm sure one day it will

👀 📱 terrific question and see what I did there and what I didn't do there with my emojis, opening line - sure doesn't everything get superseded and succeeded eventually 📺📺📺😄📈📉📈📉
I'm just hoping the phones, whatever in coming years of any brands, are still cheap and decent - I would not like going back to phones being "it's expensive again or you get no phone, sigh" πππ
Nah
World's gona end before we get a chance to do that
Yes, eventually there will be implantable devices that will interface directly with our sensory apparatus.
Smartphones should have never been invented in the first place.
The world was a much better place without them.
Things evolved and not everything stays the same but I know what you mean
Yeah, I'm sure the next big thing will come around eventually
