My mother hired a guy who installed a 2 ton AC unit to her house. The guy was referred by her friend Larry. My mom say she trust the man but never saw that guy a day in her life. She trust the guy simply because he was referred to her by that guy Larry. The man did the job in about 4 hours just by himself. I never knew you could install a unit that quick. My mom is disabled and over 65. I talk to her and she curse me out telling me it's her money but I do not want her to get screwed. I want her to have her warranty but he claims that he will give her a copy. It's been over four days and no warranty. Should I be concerned. In all honesty the warranty may not even cover any cost if the unit breaks down because he was not contracted and did a quick job installing it. I am stressed because she spent a lot of money on that unit.

How much is "a lot of money? I hope you are not expecting a guy to do a job like that for peanuts. Handymen can charge $90-$100 dollars an hour, unless they had the chance to bid by the job and not by the hour. The fact that you got someone to do a job is a plus, as many people just don't want to work today and just take the gravy jobs.
There are two components I would expect. First the product and that would I expect be conditional on proper installation and that might require certification by the contractor.
Second the installation work itself which affects the first.
You should expect some warranty document.
Are we talking about metric tons?
@saraupstairs I think we are talking long tons and not short tons. A metric tonne is close to a long ton so i wouldn't quibble.
@RavVid
Maybe it's like a baker's dozen.
Similar concept I'm sure. As much as I like arcane units of measurement lets not go down too many rabbit holes :)
