Do contractors expect to be paid right after they finish the job?

• I would like a day or two to inspect the work after they finish. Say they finish and I'm not home. I'm not just going to hand over a check without seeing that the work was done and me having to come home from work to pay them isn't really fair either. Opinions? Like for example let's say they finish on a Friday (today) is it okay to provide payment first thing Monday?

Depends. When I was doing painting and pressure washing, you paid me that day. If you did not and a week goes by without payment, I'm putting a contractors lein on you and the court will force you to pay it.

So lets say they finish at the end of today. Is it unreasonable for me to run over with a check Monday morning when they're open?

That's understandable because not every business or bank is open during the weekend. That's why I deal with cash, not checks or card transactions

Well I paid half with a credit card and they asked I pay the second half with a check to save them on credit card processing fees.

I can’t imagine that being a problem. Last time I hired a contractor, I paid half up front and he sent me an invoice for the rest. His workers did the work and not him personally. I had several days to look over the work.

Well on a two day job it's only half done on the first day. Kind of hard to pay the rest site unseen the next day. We're talking 15k here not just a 35 dollar job

Oh I know. Licensed contractors charge an arm and a leg. I think I went into the wrong line of work. Lol
