What would you do if you lived in the Philippines?

Northern Luzon Philippines just got hit by a Typhoon which 4 of the meteorological agencies rated at 160mph sustained landfall in one-minute winds and 110mph in ten-minute winds. This is Category 5 equivalent, although Joint Typhoon Warning Center seems to have under-rated this typhoon, the Advanced Dvorak Technique computer also rated it as 155mph 1-minute winds at landfall and presently. In fact, PAGASA even suggested that it has intensified since landfall, which is very rare, and suggested the 1 minute winds were as high as 170mph at one point. This is the first November Category 5 for northern Luzon since 50 years ago. Local television via Youtube is showing entire houses blown off the foundation. I found this out via a guy on Force Thirteen's youtube Channel, who lives in a concrete house. Otherwise, his house would have been destroyed too.

My wife is from the Philippines and her family home floods multiple times a year. We're looking at land currently to build our retirement house that her parents can be safe in and look after until we move there in a few years. We are going to build solid concrete on a hill with hurricane rated windows and doors. Lots of people do it but the cost to build is unaffordable to 99% of the population

Whatever they say the death toll is from there during these typhoons, you can multiply that by at least 100. More people died in my wife's old neighborhood during the last typhoon than they said died in total for the entire country.

I'm not sure they are even able to get an accurate tally. It's a developing country they just don't collect information like the West

Yeah, like permanently move the entire nation's population to the Mainland Asia or the USA or something. They get hit by Cat 5 almost every year, sometimes 2 or 3 times in one year.
