Dinos were a thing. There are animals we call dragons today. But fire breathing flying lizards. Eh, who knows. We don't really have any reason to think they did, but it would be fun if they did exist. Well maybe not fun if you had to deal with them ^^'
Nah at least not like how they're depicted. We did have things similar.
Titanoboa - A Wyrm
Megalania - A Drake
I trust your reptile knowledge lol
I don't think that fire-breathing monsters existed but perhaps dinosaurs who looked like dragons.
One can only hope
Lmoa
That's great
I have a thing for dragons lol. Like I'm playing baldurs gate 3 pretty heavily right now, and it's based on dungeons and dragons.
I loved that game
Yeah me too
Wl thank you for mho

Some of the closest things I could imagine are:
1: Azhdarchid pterosaurs: the largest animals to ever take to the skies:
https://www.youtube.com/embed/dc-mBLiqj5I2: Giant theropod dinosaurs like T-Rex.
3. Giant marine reptiles (or sea-dragons) including mosasaurus, predator X and the Swiss Tyrant.
https://www.youtube.com/embed/rypVgCbYeXYAnd there was the giant ripper lizard: a giant monitor which grew to 6 meters in length and lived long enough to encounter the first Aboriginal Australians.
Unfortunately not... the closest we have are large reptiles and large birds. By large reptiles I mean like (obviously extinct) dinosaurs or crocodiles or animals like that. And the reason I say large birds is because birds are theorized to be the descendants of dinosaurs, plus they can fly like dragons.
If dragons were real though in the way they're traditionally depicted I highly doubt they would actually be able to fly, lol. The reason birds can usually fly is that they're light and have hollow bones. Dragons are commonly depicted as really heavy, so unless they would have some ultra insanely muscular super powered wings, I don't think they'd even be able to take flight.
Further evidence some literal birds who can't fly because they're so big/heavy. Like ostriches and cassowaries. Lol.
@RavVid Ah yes, definitely. The large flightless birds like cassowaries and ostriches are by far the most dangerous birds in the world to humans.
Large birds who can fly like eagles and hawks can also be pretty dangerous (though normally not straight up deadly), but according to a quick Google search ostriches can weigh up to 320 pounds and cassowaries often around 97, and they could definitely kill you.
Though worthy of mention eagles and hawks could definitely kill human babies and toddlers, as well as most pet cats, rabbits, and dogs unless it's those really big dogs.
From the cassowaries viewpoint they have probably been insufferably provoked. Emus are larger about 120 lbs but they don't have the mean rep. They will protect their chicks though.
Magpies can be very aggressive in swooping. A woman lost an eye recently. So I'd be more worried by them more than eagles or hawks. Crows kill lambs by pecking their eyes out. We could could probably mention vultures for preying on the weak. so I think there are probably a few birds you need to keep your baby safe from.
Yes, they put together the bones wrong, most dinosaurs were flying dragons, but prejudice zoologists assumed that the wings, found were for different type.
The glands for flame rotted with the muscle. No? How about bombardier beetle! Same known mechanism.
As others have mentioned, people would have found dinosaur fossils and interpreted them as dragons. But there's another culprit, lightning. A lightening strike can kill a herd of animals and leave burn marks (quite common). Another thing to consider is the dragon was the symbol of the roman cavalry so accounts of dragon attacks may be symbolic of aincient battles.

I just thought this was a funny way to answer 🤣
I have read some theories suggest that ancient people may have encountered dinosaur fossils and misinterpreted them as the remains of dragons.
I think it became part of human culture because it was the best way people could describe dinosaur bones way back in the day. Kind of how they came up with the cyclops idea from elephant/mammoth skulls.
But in a weird twisted way... by considering dinosaurs existed, if one would consider them dragons, then yeah.
I have mentioned this elsewhere but dragons are a very early myth. Firey serpents are in the bible but without wings. The Australian Aborigine rainbow serpent myth was a dragon that was a life creator. Dragons evolved as myths changing in nature.
This youtube has a good summary.
https://www.youtube.com/embed/ALjesoFhduAOI course not, but Godzilla was very real.
https://www.youtube.com/embed/RTzb-sduiWcWow, He picks up the bus and throws it back down. Too much caffeine?
Yup. There's pottery from the Aztec and Incas that have sauropod-type animals on them. Think about the Chinese zodiac signs. All real animals except the dragon? That makes no sense. The dragon legends from across Europe.
Different cultures totally isolated from each other come up with descriptions of near identical creatures. It only makes sense if it's true.
Least I'm not alone
Ever hear of Ricky "the Dragon" Steamboat?
Yes Asian dude with a headband
Who's four months and a bit older than Yours Truly.(He'll be 72 Feb.28,2025;beefcakebradybatson July 6,2025).
I'd have loved to have clubbed his buxom blonde wife, Bonnie Steamboat !!!
I believe the human race, as an ensemble, is extremely imaginative, for better AND worse lol
They exist right now... Komodo Dragons, Drumheller Dragons!
Those don't fly, just a name.
I think it would have been really cool, and it's odd there are legends of them from so many ancient cultures. But I don't know.
I'd think they are dinosaurs and people saw the skeletons and imagined these creatures into their cultures.
They are more real than Rudolph the red nosed reigndeer.
No, they're not real. Those who have seen ancient dinosaur drawings have probably imagined fire coming out of their mouths.
Hadrosaurs were once hypothesized to breathe fire from their mouths (which was generated via their crest) as a defense mechanism. Likely a fantasy.
Yeah, probably. There are types that still exist. I've seen people that have them as pets.
yes, who do you think killed off the Unicorns?
Good point
I am absolutely certain. In the neighboring house of a buddy of mine lived an actual dragon! :-o
I don’t think so but it would be really cool if they did
No, a fire-breathing animal is not physically possible.
No, but I love the idea of Dragons being real.
Not unless you count flying dinosaurs. But dragons that breathe fire, no.
I have red some article maybe a dinosaur can breathe fire
Most societies have stories about dragons, so there must have been some animal that looks like a dragon... that people exaggerated.
I just saw one a couple days ago after I left Whiterun.
No but I do believe that hallucinogens were more widely known in the paleolithic era than us commonly accepted
It seems like something similar at least used to exist, being involved in so many ancient cultures, so I like to believe they did.
Yep, too many cultures have dragons in their history
According to the Bible, they do exist. But, they probably weren’t dinosaurs if people saw them in their cultures.
I hatched a couple dragons that tore me in half spat me back out vessal fused back together gobbled up a wolf that not wanna get crapped out... Dogs were Dragons
No, unless you count the various lizard species with dragon in their name.
I don't think so, but there is a possibility. Maybe they were some kind of dinosaurs... or even older.
Fossil evidence dictates- ahh!
Dragon burns scientist alive
yeah they're called dinosaurs
Sure. Flying and fire breathing? I don't know.
Maybe they did!
Nope, no fire breathing dragons owlee birdee 🦉
I want to be a dragon warrior
I think people are fucking retards, a lot
No, only the Komodo dragon
A dinosaur is awfully similar
Sort of. They were fossils of dinosaurs.
Nope.
Nah but interesting if they did
No, they’re just fictional
Oh yeah I do
