I'm looking forward to it. The content is brain rot and it's just a Chinese psy-op. I know a lot of people think that's BS, but I've looked into this deep and I'm telling you it's true and that's why the US is taking it so damn seriously. Frankly I think social media has done more damage to humanity than the atom bomb.
I swear to the gods, WW3 going nuclear, AI getting more and more self-aware. Covid is on the edge of coming back stronger and deadlier than ever before, and gods damned hippos getting dangerously close to the rainforest because stupid activists don't want the Columbian government to kill the hippos even though ecologists say if they aren't dealt with, they will destroy the entire amazon rainforest and that would literally choke the world to death from lack of air. We are facing way too many "end of days" scenarios right now.
I'm pretty sure we're cooked as a species at this point frankly humanity is progressing scientifically faster than we're responsible enough to use it. Humans with nukes are the equivalent of going into the forest and giving chimpanzees flame throwers. Also, more and more studies are coming out that are making it look like humanity is experiencing a phenomenon known as "zoochosis".
Zoochosis can basically be summed up as "Animals in a zoo get worse and animaling and mood changes. Essentially, they argue that with our cities and modern towns and society we've separated ourselves so much from our natural environment it's damaging our brains. When you go to small Rual tribes in the amazon or African bush depression is nearly nonexistent and things like mental disorders almost never happen, "OCD, ADHD, Bipolar etc.".
However, in first world countries around the world they run rampant and every year they're getting worse. Our lifestyles have change drastically very quickly, defiantly a lot faster than our evolution can keep up. In our brains we're still supposed to be in the forest that's our natural habitat and as a species we haven't had enough time to adapt with how fast things are changing.
Honestly, I think the golden age of human civilization was the early classical period prior to the founding of the Roman empire when everything was done as agrarian tribes and small communal city-states. In general, the closer we live to nature the better humans feel, and we have almost severed our relationship with it.
I want to go back to small communal living with the majority of the population living in small communities or city states like Athens based around farming sustainably and agrarian living styles. Also, instead of massive cities we should de -centralize industry and make lots of smaller cities spread out across the country instead of massive metropolises like New York City.
Also reduce the use of cars significantly and transition all engine power vehicles to diesel so they can burn biofuel instead of gasoline which is cleaner and soon will be cheaper too. Also, by going with diesel engines and biofuel we could make up for the reduction in private owned vehicles by re-investing into the railroad system of the country and laying a bunch of tracks making public transport possible even across the country.
It makes me sad honestly. We have the knowledge and teach right now to create nearly zero waste societies and it's never ever going to happen. In my opinion this is the best-case scenario for humans if we want to survive as a species and since we're not going that route, I think we're doomed. If we don't wipe ourselves nukes, we're going to die a slow death of mental illness poverty and eventually a global systems collapse resulting in an apocalyptic scenario that if we manage to not go extinct from will probably reset us tech wise by more than 100 years after a generation or two of lost knowledge.
It can't happen soon enough, though even the politicians pushing the ban have ulterior motives.
TikTok is a CCP intelligence and military asset, and that's more than enough that every sovereign country on the planet should ban it. There is no monopoly on short form videos, so literally anyone could take over that role.
There's a fantastical idea that TikTok could just be sold off to another company. This is a farce, because one of two things would invariably happen: either the CCP's algorithm gets stripped out and the buyer basically just gains a generic short form video platform with a damaged name/brand recognition, or it gets sold to another CCP proxy with terms of the deal dictating that the managers (government agents) remain in place so it keeps operating same as always.
All of that said, follow the money. Virtually nobody pushing for the ban is actually doing it for the good of the nation or protecting people, security interests etc; it's being done because their own big donors (mainly Alphabet and Meta) want to either take over, or at least put a major competitor out of business. Likewise, most of the politicians trying to defend TikTok are either on the take from China (via TikTok and other assets), or treating it as a disengenuous defense of free speech argument.

Q: Are you worried about the upcoming Tik Tok Ban? Will you be affected?
My response: No, good riddance. One justice of the SCOTUS stated that this is not a question about the free speech / self expression on the app by its users… This is about the National Security threat caused by the app which has been proven by Congress’ committees. This signals that they are leaning towards banning the app, which is needed. Do I believe Congress proved effectively that the app is a threat to National Security? No, though I hate TikTok and I’m not affected by this decision in any way shape or form though I will say this…. TikTok forces you to make an account and even when you go through the process of deleting it then verifying the deletion, everything is still up there (though this is according to a friend).
P. S. Donald Trump is trying to rescue the app once he is in office, though I know he will lose because Congress & Senate got rid of it once, they’ll do it again also Republican base tends to lean towards killing the app more than keeping it… I just don’t see it coming back which is good news for me.
It would be a traumatic experience for the two youngest generations.
I foresee a decline in self diagnosed mental health issues, and perhaps an increase of school shootings.
As a this-weekend experience: our modem was down for short, and my step grandson had a major entertainment crisis that almost broke the smearphone he uses.
For a while he was even forced to use his imagination.
It's a cruel world that we live in.
Worried? - Yes, but for different reasons than just a silly ''ban'' :)
No. I am not in the USA, so it doesn't affect me. It is possable that the parent company of TikTok will reach some agreement with the US government. Even if they did shut it down in the US, you could still access the other versions of it through a VPN. Some are in English.
I live in Canada so it doesn’t affect me. But I do have some American friends that use TikTok on a daily basis. Honestly, I think everyone will just migrate to Instagram or another platform and continue with the same content. That’s how BlueSky became popular because a lot of people started hating Twitter/X.
I'm not too worried about the TikTok ban. I think politicians see it as a threat because it allows people to share and see the truth, which makes it harder for them to control the narrative. TikTok can be both good and bad, it depends on how people use it. Personally, I don’t use it because it’s addictive and a time waster, but it's great for quickly accessing information. If they ban it, I’m sure another app will likely take its place, maybe even something more advanced
i gotta be honest, i'll be devastated lol tik tok actually helped me so much with being able to handle my depression. i know it's probably not the best way, but to be able to just escape what is happening in my life and put my focus on quick videos i find was actually helpful to me.
I don't think they will ban it because they been saying they were going to ban it for years now and they still haven't done it. I do feel bad for the people who use it to make a living. If it gets ban they have to find other ways to make money.
Not at all , I banned myself prior to it starting , its a data collection service where all info goes to China , it would be nice to see a bit more regulation in this area , pedophile sites are banned , Why not get rid of the disgrace that is Only Fans? You can't even watch YouTube in China , its time to get serious with this stuff.
I know how to keep the application up to date using a VPN, and plan to keep using it. I also travel to Canada often enough that I could just update the app while I'm there. The problem is, I think we'll slowly see fewer and fewer people using the app as it becomes out of date on most people's phones in the united states. I do think there will be quite a few more people who download VPNs for their phones though!
I have yet to hear anything good about TikTok or its users. I only ever hear or see brain-rotting foolishness from that place and I don't use the platform. I would be more concerned with the precedent being set by the banning itself than by the loss of that particular platform, as it sets a precedent for other bans for who knows what reasons. I'm generally not in favour of banning things.
Luckily, I've never signed up for it and I am not monetized on the site.
I'd suppose people who have TikTok monetized sites are looking to relocate. But I'm betting some chose Tik Tok because Instagram, YouTube or Facebook didn't fit them, or are overcrowded with people similar to them...
It's hard to lose a job that works for you. But maybe there'll be a reprieve.
I use it and it’s my biggest social media following so will be a bit of a hit but I’m in Canada and most of my sales weren’t to Americans already so it’ll just shift to be how I reach the international audience.
I’m disappointed that the indigenous communities that have connected on there will have a harder time doing so on other platforms though.
Indigenous people generally stand in solidarity with Palestinians and pro-Palestinian content is heavily suppressed on meta which will result in us being shadow banned more frequently than other groups.
There’s also less of a community of less of us in general on meta.
Meta tends to suppress anti-establishment positions which would include most indigenous rights movements to a degree.
For example, I grew from 0-1000 followers in a few months with indigenous content on TikTok, still below 300 on Instagram over an even longer time period.
Don’t get me started on Facebook lol the moderation is about the same as Instagram but the people are mostly super racist/bigoted gen x and boomers fighting over politics.
If you already have the app then you should be fine... they will go dark on the app store so you won't be able to update or down load a new or newer version. You can also change your settings to Canada and it should work fine if you are really concerned.
affected? not really... I don't use any of the socials
as bad as that app can be and they all can be as bad... I don't really think the government should reach that much, but either way... if that one goes down... another will come up, which is what they really want

I know there’s the reasoning that China has all of our TikTok data and how it’s a security issue and how data mining is such a big problem but, if you’re Google or Meta and you have the power to eliminate your competition via legislation and have the money to influence the coverage on how TikTok is really dangerous to kids, you gotta take it so you can gain market share. It’s money well spent. Meta and Google are the absolute worst at who they share your data with, including (illegally) with law enforcement and then sell the data to data brokers.
Im willing to admit I’m wrong here if kids suddenly stop wasting their time on social media and you can trace it back to the exact moment TikTok was banned.
No. It's simply another case of US hegemony and pro-monopoly practices.
The US can't tax Tik-Tok like it can Facebook, and don't give me the "national security" bullshit. Everyone spies on their citizens via Facebook - not Tik Tok.
I'll be really sad if it does get banned but I'll also be angry because it seems like everyone has forgotten that TikTok is where the universal sign for I need help came from and that sign has saved lives because I heard a story about a girl who was being kidnapped and she did that sign through the car window and someone recognized it and called the police
I think any reduction in humans distracting themselves all day with meaningless amusement, training even shorter attention spans than we already have, would be a good thing
It will not bother me at all as I've avoided it even though a lot of people I've worked with are on it, I don't use it because I don't trust it, the TikTok here in the West is basically a Data Stripping Asset of the CCP, In China it is close to being like Youtube with serious channel creators, the CCP would never allow the kind of content on Chinese TikTok that is on TikTok here in the West.
I really doubt it will be banned, but I guess we shall see in a few days! No effect on me but I would feel bad for small businesses who have set up shop there and seeing success.
I do not have anything against tik tok in itself. But it has been proven that the app has given the Chinese government a horrifying amount of data on American. The app can literally hack and spy on everything you do on your phone.
As for the upcoming TikTok Ban I will not be effected because I don’t have it anyway however I guarantee a few TikTok Stars & wannabe stars will be jumping off of bridges.
I don't use TikTok. A ban wouldn't affect me. Realistically, I don't think a ban will happen. And even if it does, people will just use VPNs so that it looks like they're not in the US, allowing them to still use it.
I wasn’t aware there was an upcoming tik tok ban. Is it in the US only or Canada as well? I personally won’t be affected I have the app but rarely ever use it. My roommate however will be devastated
Tbh I think the ban could be a good thing and a bad thing the good thing being that TikTok it self faced a lot of scrutiny the bad thing is is that a lot of people relied on that for money though there is some interest of some companies or people purchasing it I think that Snapchat purchasing TikTok would make sense to save it from the bann look how similar the platform is to TikTok besides a lot of those videos posted to TikTok are also posted to Snapchat spotlight
Not really. They can't make us undownload it from our phones. I hate that this is happening though and it makes no sense to me at all. Other apps "steal" our data all the time so why is it issue now that tik tok is a popular platform?
Only thing I'm curious about is what they (US congress) are so afraid of. Hordes of other companies collect and use our information. What makes TT so dangerous to them?
@QuineJessica And the fact they’re trying to cover it up by saying they’re worried about “data concerns” is utter bs, so many us companies screw with our data, it’s about control
naw not really. there's enough apps i can watch politically radicalizing content, sexually implicit content and violence on. plenty of options for that out there.
The whole idea about that is, Trump and Elon don't want Chinese big tech to be alternative to their cloud capital hegemony.

Anyone who has a problem with the US banning TikToc is either too dumb to understand the national security implications of TicTok or too stupid to care.
Not worried, my account got deleted so I don’t have a high following or likes anymore. I got lemon8 but it’s boring. They should take Snapchat and instagram away.
It's social media, so I could care less. Now we just got to ban FB, Instagram, and Twitter to help create a more conservative environment. These platforms unleash the worst in people.

@LeatherDame Oh. Are you indigenous?
Yes, I’m Métis and the elected 2S rep for my region
That's pretty cool! What is 2S?
Two Spirit, it’s a term we use to describe the various forms of gender and sexual identities within the various indigenous communities

**affect
"Effect" was right the first time. "Effect" is a noun. "Affect" is a verb.
@Wraith_Cemetery thank you! I saw the usage in the title and another comment and questioned myself lol
I do not have anything against tik tok in itself. But it has been proven that the app has given the Chinese government a horrifying amount of data on American. The app can literally hack and spy on everything you do on your phone.

The connections to china. And the competition with powerful wealthy zuckerberg facebook.
Although I don't use Tik Tok, I'm going to glad if it actually gets banned.
Yet, somehow, those Chinese Communists will find more ways to get in.
I've never had it so I could not be more indifferent.
It won't be banned here neither do I use it so I won't be effected at all. I do find it problematic though.
I concur it is problematic; it should be banned in Europe as well.
Dont have it, so no effect on me. I do tho think it will be for the better.
Im more worried about it not being banned. It’s full of brain rot and it’s doing nothing good for teens and children especially.
Yes
Americans should be scared, I doubt TikTok will be the first app to be banned
Actually I don't use tik-tok , but the very fact of the ban is very similar to an encroachment on democracy
@QuineJessica And the fact they’re trying to cover it up by saying they’re worried about “data concerns” is utter bs, so many us companies screw with our data, it’s about control
Given what the app actually does behind the scenes it's for the best and no it won't affect me I don't use it or watch it.
I'm looking forward to it. Make these kids read a book or something.
naw not really. there's enough apps i can watch politically radicalizing content, sexually implicit content and violence on. plenty of options for that out there.
The whole idea about that is, Trump and Elon don't want Chinese big tech to be alternative to their cloud capital hegemony.
Anyone who has a problem with the US banning TikToc is either too dumb to understand the national security implications of TicTok or too stupid to care.
Ban it. I don’t own TikTok but I also live in Canada so it’s not going to effect me.
I have a TikTok account but I don't go on there all that much - so, no, I'm not worried
While, I can understand the want for Tik Tok to be banned, I think it's a bad precedent if it is.. No government should have that power..
It won't bother me at all, but I just want the government to have the same enthusiasm and spine in banning OnlyFans.
Worried yes, its another step towards censorship.
Affected no.
Nope. Never used TikTok and I'm not addicted to it. So im not heartbroken at all
I've never used tiktok so I don't really care.
Though I don't know how they can actually ban it, isn't it just a video sharing app?
I can’t believe people care this much about something so stupid lol. No i do not care at all about this
No not really but enjoy it while it lasts and it will have another media giant that will take its place
It's only banned, if it's not sold to the u. s.
The problem is, china, isn't selling it
No, I won't be effected, I don't make money on it
I hope Tik Tok gets banned, it's one of the most ridiculous apps I've ever seen in my life.
I have a life so no. People like you who don't have a life and have no friends the only ones worried.
The Felon in Chief will fix this! There's nothing he cannot do without his magic sharpie!!
Nope cause I never used Tiktok. Thank god that's one trend I never got sucked into.
I'm not worried and it wouldn't affect me.
Not much into TikTok
Literally never used tik tok and wasn’t interested
I don't give a rat's ass, I don't use tic tac
