Are you prepared for Tik Tok being banned? Thoughts on this?

I dunno if any of y'all use that app but be prepared to never use it again if you're in the u. s. lol

This is our tax dollars at work folks! So it just passed overwhelmingly in the house. there's a decent chance it passes in the senate AND President Biden signals he would sign it. hmmm doesn't look good for the app! I personally don't use this app but like seriously? are there not other serious concerns we should focus on atm? lol

Who voted for the bill: The House vote was 352 to 65, with 50 Democrats and 15 Republicans voting in opposition. In a rare show of bipartisanship, the measure advanced unanimously out of the powerful House Energy and Commerce Committee, and President Joe Biden has said he would sign the bill if it makes it to his desk.

Why the bill passed: Lawmakers supportive of the bill have argued TikTok poses a national security threat because the Chinese government could use its intelligence laws against TikTok's Chinese parent company, ByteDance, forcing it to hand over the data of US app users.

I know a lot of you hate tik tok and im not a fan either but banning the platform outright might be opening up pandoras box. What else are they gonna try to ban next?

Personally, I think they’ve all just been bought out by meta. Facebook absolutely sells just as much data to China as Bytedance gets from the app itself. I think what scares them is how vocal people are on tiktok about the government with open critiques and news sources young people trust more than the biased mainstream media, so now they’ve made a bill that makes it possible to not only ban tiktok but any app or website they deem “unsafe” which is just an infringement on our expression to free speech if you ask me.

I don't use Tik Tok, so nothing to prepare for. If people posting videos of their self doing stupid stuff poses a security risk then we got bigger problems. It's Tik Tok now, but what other apps/websites could be deemed a "national security treat" just to get rid of it. In my opinion, Tik Tok ban won't work, people will just use VPN's to get around the ban.

I hope it gets banned everywhere, really. It’s nothing but brain rot. There’s some wholesome stuff on there but its not hard to accidentally stumble onto bad/disturbing content, and get trapped down a rabbit hole. I see too many people in my age group and younger just get absorbed into their phone, spending hours mindlessly scrolling through the videos. You scroll through so many that you can’t even remember the last one you watched, 10 seconds later. I know that the same can be said about other apps and social media, but I’ve personally noticed it happening the most with TikTok.


But… no doubt that if TikTok gets banned, it’ll only be replaced with another platform. The same as Vine was replaced by Musicly, and Musicly was replaced by TikTok.

I agree with brain rot! I got on it and in 3 days I felt like it's filling my brain with junk! I felt filthy to my brain & it felt like it was damaging my mind's healthy thought process. The existing social media is enough diversion as it is, tyvm. I think its good for Tik tok to get banned.

I really hope they ban it. Most people and kids spend too much time on it. I've noticed my young niece, she's very overweight. She's on her phone all day and you can see it in her eating habits and her eyesight. Tiktok also makes you overspend and also kids get bad habits seeing other kids stealing at the stores and just walking out without getting caught. I get that there's good things from it like business wise and making money but overall it's hurting people more than helping. I do have it but I could care less if it gets banned

They're probably not wrong about what China could do, but it seems excessive. Why not just ban government employees from using it? Companies can follow suit, if the whereabouts of their employees could be used against them. (ISTR a story about special forces being tracked using fitbit or similar data when they jogged.)

This isn't about Tik Tok. It's about control of what Israel let's us see. This is about X. The American people want a secure boarder, fiscal responsibility. Less inflation. What do they do? Ban Tik Tok over spying concern? In what? A feweetings and by a large majority of yes votes? I mention Barndaminium with a coworker and every add on YouTube is about barndaminiums. Our cell phones have always been spying devices. They ain't stopping youtube because Israel is controlling that platform.
