It’s possibly it could happen but I think the chances of it actually being banned is low. It makes too much money so I doubt it. It’s possible but probably just has a low chance. Banning social media websites is definitely good for mental health.

But I’m not too sure that’s the case either though. Because of social media, I was able to get through some of the darkest times in my life by hearing other peoples stories about going through the same thing. Of course that’s not the case for everyone and there have been some studies that the number of mental illness problems has risen since the start of social media, but there could be a number of different factors contributing to that. Like for example, the world wide pandemic and the alarming number of school s****Ings that happen every year that only keeps rising. I’m not trying to be rude or start an argument or anything, just trying to explain things from my point of view.

it does not make money.

Online poker was a multi-billion a year business that was very popular in this country. Didn't stop the feds from shutting it down as lawfully as they could.

You mean to ban tiktok? (I’m just trying to make sure I understand)
- +1 y
Yeah we have bigger things to worry about

It's looking pretty likely too by the way. it passed overwhelmingly in a bipartisan move in the house. it just has to go through the senate and biden has signaled he will sign it into law. i feel like this is just a dumb move on their part to do this.

+1 yProbably. But it won’t disappear. Someone will buy the IP in the US. Most users probably won’t notice a difference.
20 Reply I doubt it. My understanding is that they're just looking to force the sale of the company. I suspect from a customer perspective, nothing with change.

+1 yNo, it won't be banned, it will get sold. If it's banned, you'll still be able to access it on a VPN.
10 Reply 6.4K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I doubt that's constitutional.
22 Reply- +1 y
As far as I know there's no constitutional right to a Chinese spy app.

@ImalwaysrightOK there’s like zero proof that that’s what they’re using it for. Accusing a country of doing such a thing without any proof just because of a social media app is ignorance that’s fed by racism.

+1 yI sure hope so, because it is just a weapon used by the CCP to corrupt the youth.
02 Reply- +1 y
There’s like no proof of that though and a claim like that without proof is just ignorance rooted in racism.
- +1 y
Anyone who claims that criticism of the CCP is racist is just another one of their useful idiots. You are a great example of why the app should be banned.

But if they ban tiktok, who’s to say there’s going to be anything stopping them from banning other social media apps and websites?

But like every single other social media app does that too, including Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat.

But to do so would be an infringement upon our freedom of speech and would open a floodgate to other bills that do the same.
- +1 y
That would mean we have freedom of speech in the first place and in reality we don't
Take this place if people would freely express themselves they would be Banned stating policy
I have Been banned many times now I don't stay here for long its just some weka then I would leave foe maybe 3 to 5 years might not come back ever
No one cares
Same with the country - +1 y
We do have freedom of speech in comparison to many other countries. Does that mean we get to say whatever whenever we want? No, but that doesn’t change the fact that we’re lucky to be able to say the things we can say because of those rights. It may seem like people don’t care if you don’t use tiktok (I’m not assuming you don’t, just saying) but people all over tiktok are really upset, even the older generations who are on tiktok.

You have no idea about internet then everything you see on the internet is censored, the uncensored things go around in dark net which less than one percent of world population have access to
Now even youtube can Block your video saying they breach youtube policy that's not freedom that's them saying what you can say what you can't - +1 y
I never said anything about the internet. Of course I know about the dark web and most of the illegal stuff that goes on there. You don’t watch as many conspiracy theory videos as I have for fun without running across more than a few that are about the dark web. I also have a YouTube account so of course I know about that too. Our rights extend to our lives on the internet too. Does that mean everyone follows the law when on the internet? Of course not. No one is naive enough to think that everyone follows the law all the time. You don’t live in the same state as the green river k*ller or Ted B*ndy and think that way unless you’re a kid. Also, with YouTube being a privately owned business, they can take down videos if they do in fact breach their policy. That’s not an infringement on the freedom of speech, that’s a privately owned company exercising their rights as a privately owned company. Also, you can verbally threaten someone and get arrested without that being a violation of your right to freedom of speech because that counts as harassment which is illegal.

Who ever holds the policy holds freedom under their boots
Let's talk about law
In india wives can legally murder their husbands well not legally but there are thousands of cases where wives did murder their husbands and were given only two years or less in jail then they were free and also has all the money her husband had
Now youtube can ban a video saying that particular video promotes hate speech since you already have a youtube channel you should know that female posting as kill all men videos are not taken down but men posting kill all women videos are almost instantly taken down
We don't have freedom we gave that up long time ago

01 Reply- +1 y
Why? It’s an infringement upon the first amendment and therefore also an infringement on the Bill of Rights. If this bill passes, so many other bills could be introduced that also infringe upon the Bill of Rights, like the government could release a bill stating that news outlets cannot speak out against or report any stories that make the US government look/sound bad or take away our right to bear arms (I’m aware that the first example would also be a violation of the first amendment). Even if the claim that they’re making is that China is collecting data from the US via tiktok, a lot of other social media platforms do that as well and it’s likely that they don’t have evidence of tiktok doing that or if they do, it’s likely circumstantial which cannot hold up in court without other evidence to back it up. Also, banning tiktok just because it’s from China is not only ignorant but racist too. Banning just tiktok because it’s doing something that almost all social media platforms do anyways makes zero sense unless.
I hope

But it’s an infringement upon our right to freedom of speech. I mean, if they ban tiktok, think of the floodgate it would open and the amount of bills that could be introduced that also infringe upon our rights.
