I just feel so off lately. Went to the doctor and after extensive testing, the results came back: I have a broken give-a-damn! They have no idea how this condition develops to begin with and haven't discovered a cure for it yet. So, I'm kinda up the creek without a paddle here and I want my give-a-damn back! Anyone else got the same problem lately? Any thoughts on what causes this condition? Any suggestions on how to fix it? All thoughts would be sincerely appreciated!
1 yBoy, I hear you. I'm that way with a lot of external things now, like politics. I just don't care anymore. In some ways, it's a good thing. I used to stress out about everything and be so afraid. Now, I completely ignore anything that is fear-based. Period. If it's trying to frighten me, it get tossed into the memory dump, haha. It's changed my life and I am a lot happier now. Odd how rejecting fear makes one happier. :D
But in other ways, I can see how that could feel paralyzing. So much going on and just throwing up our hands and saying, I can't care about anything anymore!
I don't know what your particular situation is, so this is kind of general, but my personal goal is to only focus on my top priorities. For me, that's my kids and myself. Not extended family drama, not my parents problems, not what people might think if I don't volunteer my life away at my kids school, etc. It may not get your "give-a-damn" back, but it might get your "f*** that" going. :D
Hang in there! It's winter; time to hibernate and watch movies anyway. It's what the rest of nature is doing. :D

@TheRealPepperPotts Thanks for your take on it. I've always kind of done my own thing and let things pretty much be like water off a duck's back. But I just think for anyone who tends to care at all that things are so overwhelming just trying to function in the whole social/political environment rn that it is numbing. I posted this largely as an explanation of how I am being affected, and as an opportunity for others to speak about it, too. We can't just shove it all under the carpet. I think an open discussion might help many of us. I would like to say "all of us", but I don't believe that anymore. There is just so much nasty gloating going on. Anyway, Pepper, I always value your thoughts.
@Caroline91 Thanks! You strike me as a person who is like that. :D I admire the ability to just let it roll off your back; I'm learning how to do that, ha. Right back at you, my friend. :)

I am a strong woman and I always just put one foot in front of the other and push on, get things done and then go to the next thing.
I don't believe that I ever was in a place in my life where I was ready to throw in the towel - like what you are doing.
I know of one thing that I don't care about anymore and that's wearing clothes that look nice but are uncomfortable to wear. So I don't care how I look, I go for comfort now and no restraining bra anymore!😉
The other thing that I stopped doing last year in the Spring is that I quit watching TV!! That freed me up to do more of the things that I enjoy doing and I wasn't stressing about anything anymore.
Sure, I still have struggles with my life, but if I just give up and don't care anymore then it's time to bundle up my coffin. ⚰️🪦33 Reply- 1 y

13K opinions shared on Other topic. Okay- I know you are sort of having some sport about this but if you are really going through something like this you might be clinically depressed. I went through this a few years ago during covid. I was unemployed and just hung around the house. I all but stopped working out and I really had to find a good reason to get out of bed. I tried to find stuff that might help me. I got a beach sticker so I could drive my truck out on the beach. I also worked on the campaign for a political candidate. eventually I found a new job and things got better.
I had a friend that is a wellness coach. She told me that depression can be caused when you are out of the loop of control of your life. Get some control over your life and your depression will improve.11 Reply

I suppose you need to define better what the problem is. Do you feel hopeless. Is something getting you down? Is there something you want that you feel like you want but can't have? Do you feel trapped? Is there an area of your lift you're unsatisfied with?
Some Japanese 1980's city pop might help as a little quick fix.

Start making life out of the people go do something first in elderly people do stuff or other people because it makes you happy teach your child something cause and effect is a good place to start but you have to love yourself before you can give a damn or before you can give love

Well I think in life when we were all born we were all given a gift and that gift is choice and we get to choose who we want to be in life by the things that we say and do but through our upbringing sometimes we get misguided we get turned around spun around we are made to feel certain things and it changes a lot of things and then one day we wake up a little bit and we understand that we are our own worst enemy our own best friend and we start wondering what is going on and why can't I be who I want to be until one day you go to the doctor and the doctor says you lost your give a damn. And when you hear those words you have to do something about it sometimes you have to let yourself go and be a free spirit and just explore and experience sometimes you just need to go wrap your arms around somebody and hold on to them tight whether it be in the living room on the street in a bed it doesn't matter as long as it's coming from you and as long as you can feel that give a damn that energy rushing through your body because the more you experience it the more you better want it and the more you want it the more you're going to give it

@ohsheeT It's really been an eye opener for me bc my give-a-damn has always been such an intrinsic part of me. Not that I let myself be taken advantage of, but it does serve as my main motivator and it feels kind of like a boat without a rudder having it it broken. Definitely on the mend, though, bc it's just not something I care to live without. It's never impinged on being a free spirit and I doubt it ever will for me. Your thoughts are much appreciated... and the way you phrase them. Thank you.
- 1 y
Well you're very welcome about whether you're a free spirit or not that part doesn't even matter it's what makes you happy is what matters and that's when your give a damn. Kind of just takes over and it kind of just becomes you and who you are..
I get put in the right place at the right time in the most unusual times.
But it seems like no matter what I do or where I go something will be in front of me and I can either help that person or I can walk away but I'm there in that moment I have the knowledge to help them to fix whatever it is is broken so might give a damn kicks in and I do what it takes to get them off and going to where they need to go or be and I try to do it with quickness if possible so I can still get off and get where I'm supposed to be but if I didn't help that person I would think about it all day and then that would break other parts of me and I would rather stay whole and be happy..
We are put up against challenges every day we go through things every day and it's for a reason it's to prove to ourselves who we are or it is to prove to ourselves that if we fall down we can get back up with quickness and we can understand it and we can understand it's a challenge and we have to give a damn about ourselves too
If you read most of the questions on here it's usually about a girlfriend or boyfriend something happened and one person didn't give a damn and they want to know how to get through it well first of all they have to give a damn about themselves and understand what just happened whether it was happiness or painful it was to make them think and to grow and change to become the best we can become because of where we're all headed
It's choices and with choices you have to give a damn because that's what's going to guide you or teach you in this moment of time for the next moment of time that happens but I appreciate your question and I appreciate your sense of humor
- 1 y
and I appreciate you because whether anybody knows this or not this is one of the most important questions that I've read on here and I think everybody should read it and try to understand it to their best ability just because I say what I say doesn't mean I'm right I have to tell you that too but I answered the way that I answered it because I do care and my give a damn. Likes to smile and be happy
So like I said I thank you for this question

It would make me happy if people would stop being so nasty and cruel to each other. It's fine to have differences, but it isn't fine to express it all in such rude and disrespectful ways. Where has the art of civil debate gone? That is one of the founding principles of this nation and I, for one, would like to see more of it instead of name calling and hurling insults. This poisons the environment for all of us.
