How do you handle insults?

Well, here's an example from this morning. It's fairly mild compared to my typical reaction, but it's all I have right now...

If I remember this post, next time someone genuinely insults me, I'll post it for you or tag you in it, because this one is pretty mild.

It's contextual. Also English insults become bland and unimaginative after you learn to curse someone's soul for all eternity in a more colourful language.

Remember when you were little kid and somebody would say you're stupid or you're ugly or whatever you know it's a put-down..

And your answer was always I am not with a tone of voice and the upset kind of I am not coming out of your mouth

Well nowadays if somebody does something like that to me I agree with it I stopped my feet and had that little attitude with that tone of voice and say I am too like if somebody said you're ugly I would stop my feet and said I am too because then that throws them off they don't know what to say so I don't mind insults at all anyway because the person usually doesn't know me that's insulting me so that's even better and I know that they're just trying to get my goat trying to piss me off and it just makes me smile

To deal with insult successfully, you can: stop and evaluate what is happening, decide not to draw in if fitting, answer smoothly and straightforwardly if important, use humor to divert, or basically recognize the affront without responding inwardly, while recollecting that the affront frequently uncovers more about the insulter than you; the key is to stay created and not let the affront control your feelings.

I live in the Netherlands ( Europe ) and overhere people are so brutally direct towards eachother that you learn pretty quickly not to feel insulted because of some idiot being rude to you.

Although it can be pretty overwhelming for foreigners that aren't used to the dutch directness. Once they are here for a longer period they eventually realize it's actually pretty nice knowing that people aren't talking behind your back but instead tell you straight away how they feel about you

It depends who's slinging the insult. Sometimes the expression on the person's face prompts a chuckle out of me. If the person is really trying to be hurtful, though, I just give them a small smile and walk away.

I would look at each side of myself and behind me then ask them "Were you talking to ME"? It embarrasses them and they say "No I wasn't talking to you"!

Usually add to them or laugh. I don't care for insults, and people get uncomfortable when you agree on their perspective. Some of them are creative though, you gotta appreciate those!

If factually valid, accept it and think of ways to improve. If just an opinion, shrug and continue on. If total absurd, laugh and walk away.

Chuckle and say "Good one" if done in gest with a friend. If it's someone I don't know, I'd say that was hurtful why did you have aneed to say that? Most people have a need to inflate their own ego's by having opinions of others that are false.
